THERE’S something for everyone in Sydney for the next few months with pop stars and rock bands lining up to play here this autumn.

Sam Smith

One of the biggest breakthrough artists of the past 12 months, the British singer and songwriter has brought beautiful songs performed with a gifted voice back into fashion. Those who have witnessed him perform are well aware that voice is like butter — as Beyonce described it — and Smith has a confidence and effortlessness about his delivery which is mesmerising. His shows are deftly balanced between the lovelorn ballads which have dominated the pop charts for the past year and more up-tempo affairs to keep the energy levels buoyed.

One of the most dynamic touring bands in the world, these Irishman now have the repertoire to match their enthusiasm having generated 10 top 50 hits from their four records over the past six years. With the focus on their harmonies as much as their musicianship, The Script have carved their own place in the pop rock scheme of things. Frontman Danny O’Donoghue knows how to work the crowd and get those epic singalongs going to Break Even, Hall Of Fame and The Man Who Can’t Be Moved.

Meghan Trainor

The young aspiring pop star discovered when she submitted her own songs to be recorded by another artist is now the name on everyone’s lips. Sassy and smart, Trainor has swept the global airwaves with her singular pop sensibilities from the infectious debut of All About That Bass right through to the latest hits, Lips Are Movin’ and Dear Future Husband. Trainor is bringing labelmates G.R.L. with her for her Australian concerts for their first live set here since the death of Simone Battle.

Paloma Faith

The big-voiced British singer has an even bolder and brighter personality and will no doubt bring her love of theatre and drama to the stage for her debut Australian tour. The flamboyant and charismatic artist has enjoyed success since her first record Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful? in 2009, followed with Fall To Grace in 2012 and last year’s A Perfect Contradiction which gave us the retro classic torch song Only Love Can Hurt Like This. This prodigiously talented singer should prove just a big a hit on the stage.

Josh Pyke with Your SSO

Orchestras are the New Black when it comes to Australia’s rock community — you just haven’t made it until you have been invited to front one of the country’s biggest bands. Award-winning singer songwriter Josh Pyke has scored the coveted call up to reimagine his stunning repertoire for performance with the Sydney Symphony. “Playing my songs with an orchestra has been on my bucket list since before I even had the catalogue to justify it ever happening,” he said. Pyke will also be inviting some special guests to help him recreate our favourites from Middle of The Hill to Make You Happy.
