IT’S as if each of the 50,000 lights blinking in Suncorp Stadium last night came straight from the hearts of each and every Taylor Swift fan that had come to see her perform.

Handed out as a “gift from Taylor” the illuminated bracelets beat in unison to the music, lighting up different colours for different songs. Pink for Love Story, Red for Trouble, filling the stadium with an emotive swatch of blinking light.

It was picture perfect Instagram material, a spectacle on a grand social scale, no filter needed.

As the leggy pop star took to the stage belting out “welcome to New York, it’s been waiting for you”, it was clear that Brisbane had been waiting just as long for her.

She was almost inaudible among the screams.

“I’ve gotten to play in this stadium once before,” she told the audience, “but I’ve never gotten to see it lit up like this, every single person is illuminated, so it really changes things for us on stage because we can see every last one of you in this 50,000 seat stadium which is amazing and I love being able to look out and see you.”

The 25-year-old said she had “really, really warm cozy fond memories” of Brisbane because it was the first city she played in Australia seven years ago.

“Back then seven years ago I was playing a club tour, I was playing really small venues, bars and clubs and having the best time with you so I decided I’ve got to keep coming back and it seems like it was just yesterday but now you’ve gone and filled up this giant stadium haven’t you.”

The crowd hung on her every word as she offered some of her wisdom and thanked her fans for “caring enough” to buy her album, while stopping dramatically at numerous moments “to take it all in”.

She knew where every camera was, where her next pensive look would be captured and smiled as broadly as one could smile when they know they’ve got the world at their feet.

“Slick” doesn’t even come close to describing the production.

There was moments of romance as she performed a remixed Love Story floating over a sea of pink lights, contrasted with her baddest rock chick look performing Bad Blood and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together in a leather jumpsuit.

But it wasn’t just about the music. Equally as spectacular as her voice was the array of costumes that included singing Out Of The Woods in a sequin unitard and How You Get The Girl in a neon two piece that lit up in the dark among a sea of twirling illuminated umbrellas.

Closing the show with her smash hit Shake It Off, complete with fireworks shooting from either side of the stage, Tay Tay had given everything.

While there wasn’t any of the much hyped surprise celebrity guests taking to the stage alongside her like she has done in tours past, It didn’t matter.

As a one woman show, it was abundantly clear why Swift is the biggest pop star in the world.

Her fans might have come for the music, but they left feeling like they were now part of her squad.

Fans showed their excitement.
