PRINCE’S sister Tyka Nelson will join the cast for the world premiere concerts celebrating the legendary musician’s life in Australia in April.
Nelson, a singer in her own right, joins the line-up of musicians who worked with the pop mastermind over four decades for the Nothing Compares 2 Prince shows in Sydney and Melbourne.
The shows, which follow the Celebration 2018 four-day event at Paisley Park also in April, are staged a week after the second anniversary of his sudden death at his home and studio complex in Minneapolis.

“I am very excited about coming to Australia to celebrate the life of my brother with you,” she said.
“Prince loved your country and enjoyed playing there! I look forward to joining the other wonderful singers and musicians on stage for Nothing Compares 2 Prince and I hope to see and hug as many of Prince’s fans as I can off stage.”
Nelson recorded four records between 1988 and 2011 with many fans remarking on the similarities between the siblings’ vocals.
“It is not my intent to sound like anyone else and I have strived to be original in everything I do. Even though my brother is someone I greatly love and respect, there can and will be only, one Prince,” she has said.
She had politely refused her brother’s offers to use the Paisley Park studios and assist her career over the decades but changed her mind after his death to record a tribute to him, End Of The Road, her first new song in six years which she released last June.
“After Prince passed I wanted to give him one final birthday present and I decided to fulfil his wish, and record this song at Paisley Park,” she said when she released the song and video which features home photos of the Nelson family.
“This song poses the question ‘is this the End of The Road?’ and my answer is I don’t think so! I will see all three of my beautiful family members some day again.”
The line-up for the concerts includes St. Paul Peterson who appeared in Purple Rain, keyboard player Cassandra O’Neal who feature din his band The New Power Generation from 2009 to 2016 and Shelby J, who spent the last decade at his side as a lead vocalist in The New Power Generation and featured with him at Superbowl XLI.
Musicians from The Time, who starred in Purple Rain including Jellybean Johnson and Tori Ruffin, are also in the all-star band.
Nelson recently said she was “pleasantly surprised” by Justin Timberlake’s tribute to her brother during his Super Bowl half-time performance in Minneapolis.
Nothing Compares 2 Prince opens at the Sydney Opera House on April 27 and Melbourne’s Hamer Hall on April 29.
