IT TAKES an awful lot to make Pharrell Williams “Happy” — his backstage demands could give any diva a run for her money.
The laundry list of items the singer demands in his dressing room before concerts includes, booze, snacks — and a framed photograph of late astronomer Carl Sagan, according to a 2015 tour rider of his requests obtained by The Smoking Gun.
“When I look at that picture I realise how lucky we all are ... to be on this planet and be able to do what we love to do every day,” Williams has said. “Seeing Carl’s face reminds me of it.”
Other items include Nilla Wafers, a case of alkaline water, 12 cans of “SUPER COLD” soda, Pedialyte, a litre of Silver Patron Tequila and another of Kettle One vodka, Cetaphil Cleansing Lotion, fresh ginger root, a jar of grape jelly and one loaf of gluten-free bread.
The rider explains that Williams, 42, has adopted the Atkins Diet, and wants his and his crew’s grub “to be specifically cooked for him on a daily basis at the venues.”
And all advertisements inside the venue must be removed or darkened, because, he explains, “we are not hawking pizza or the local ambulance chaser.”
