One Direction tell fans to "get back"

NEARLY 50 One Direction fans were either crushed, fainted or trampled on after a concert became “dangerous”.

The popular boy band played at the Estadio Nacional stadium in Lima, Peru, during their stop on their worldwide Where We Are Tour.

When the doors officially opened to the concert, fans ran up to the stage to try and get as close to it as they possibly could.

But this time, it was too close for the band.

Videos posted online by fans at the concert show band member Niall Horan telling the audience: “Get back”.

“If you don’t want anyone to take us off the stage, make sure you stay back,” he said.

Fellow band member Liam Payne also said: “Or we’ll have to go, and we don’t want to go.”

The crowd crush led to 47 of those at the concert suffering symptoms of Asphyxia. - a lack of oxygen or excess of carbon monoxide that can cause unconsciousness and, at times, death.

Witnesses reported seeing girls who “fainted”, “got trampled” on and described the concert as “scary and “dangerous”, the Daily Mirror reports.

Peru’s Volunteer Fire Service head Mario Cassareto said tents were set up to treat young fans who were between the ages of 12 and 15.

“We treated 47 children with the first stages of asphyxia. Everything is under control. We have nothing to be ashamed of, we’ve handled the situation well,” he told Peruvian radio.

No serious injuries or fatalities were reported.

In a statement to The Daily Mirror, a spokesman for One Direction said: “audience safety is always the #1 priority.”

“The planning for this starts with the configuration of the audience on a stadium or arena plan, and where the tickets are sold in that plan. There is always an individual crowd control and security strategy for every One Direction concert,” they added.

“The band’s management employ, in their touring party, the very best crowd control and advance security specialists who plan in advance and on the day with all the relevant local experts and services including police, fire, medical, the venue and the promoter.”
