Aussie Olivia Rodrigo fans devastated after tickets are sold out from under them

Some Australian Olivia Rodrigo fans have bee left “devastated” after the tickets they bought for the star’s sellout shows have been “sold from under them”.

Youngsters Rosie & Annabelle appeared on The Project on Thursday night to share their dismay. The pair had waited months to see Rodrigo, but found out at the gate their digital tickets had been “stolen”.

“I went into my account in mid-August to check our Olivia tickets and football tickets. I could see they were no longer there and that my name had been changed and my email had been changed. I reached out to Ticketek who told me I had sold them on Ticketek Marketplace, but I hadn’t.”

The Marketplace feature allows users to on-sell tickets if they can no longer attend a show or have decided they no longer want to go to an event.

Co-host Sarah Harris replied: “Wait, so you lost your footy tickets as well?”

“Ticketek were good about that,” replied Annabelle. “Because it wasn’t sold out they managed to get us tickets to that. But because Olivia is sold out they’ve said there’s no way they can get us new tickets. We’re just so devastated.”

The two young girls aren’t the only ones to have been targeted by scammers.

Hayley Flude, 23, said she bought tickets back in May to the pop superstar’s Sydney show. However, in a video posted to TikTok this week, she revealed she knew she had been “hacked” when she received a Ticketek Marketplace email confirming a listing for her tickets, despite never making one.

“I had two tickets which were over $200 each and the only way to get more is by spending all day refreshing Marketplace hoping you are the first person to click on a new listing,” she explained.

Ticketek told Daily Mail Australia that “Australia is currently a global hot spot for account phishing and scams across all e-commerce businesses”.

“Ticketek is aware of unauthorised access to individual accounts via credentials that have been stolen as a result of other third-party data breaches,” a spokesman said.

“We would also like to reiterate that Ticketek accounts or individual data has not been compromised.

“In the best interest of all our clients, we would like to remind fans to remain vigilant by changing or updating their passwords to safeguard their interests.”

The company also urged those who believe their tickets have been fraudulently sold to contact both them and the police.

“If customers believe that they’ve had stolen or misappropriated property, and the resale of their tickets was fraudulent, customers should immediately file a police report and contact Ticketek customer service so we can commence an investigation.

The spokesman insisted that Ticketek will do what they can to help any customer impacted to “resolve” their issue.

“If the original ticket holder can demonstrate that: they originally purchased the tickets, their information has been legitimately compromised; and the sale was fraudulent; Ticketek will work with the customer to resolve the issue.”

Earlier this year, Ticketek suffered a data breach, with the personal information of a number of Australians exposed.

Information such as full names, dates of birth and email addresses were stolen by a hacker.

The breach occurred on a third party vendor that the company uses, not naming which vendor it was but that the company is “reputable”, and Ticketek reached out to customers that were impacted.
