Music legend Neil Young has said he is concerned he could be barred from re-entering the US due to his negative views of US President Donald Trump.
Young, 79, is a US citizen but also holds citizenship of Canada, having been born in the Canadian city of Toronto. In a new online post, he’s claimed he fears the US could stop him from coming back to America because he could go to another country.
He will tour Europe in June and July and is due back in the US in August.
“When I go to play music in Europe, if I talk about Donald J Trump, I may be one of those returning to America who is barred or put in jail to sleep on a cement floor with an aluminium blanket,” he said on his website the Neil Young Archives.
“That’s right folks. If you say anything bad about Trump or his administration, you may be barred from re-entering USA if you are Canadian.
“If you are a dual citizen like me, who knows? We’ll all find that out together.”
He added on another post that “our rights to free speech are being taken away and buried by our government”.
Young cited White House media bans, including for the Associated Press because it refused to fully call The Gulf of Mexico by the name Gulf of America which Mr Trump prefers.
“Just because you love music don’t allow your children to lose their freedom”.
The White House has denied people are being stopped at the border because of their views on Mr Trump.
Young’s comments come as Mr Trump today announces sweeping new tariffs, a move he’s declared as “Liberation Day” for the US.
A financial analyst has said tariffs will “cause pure chaos” to global industries.
