Miley Cyrus once again strips naked in her new music video – and once again appears to take aim at ex-husband Liam Hemsworth with some very pointed lyrics.
Cyrus dropped the self-directed music video for new single Midnight Sky on Friday, and it shows the star rocking her new bleached-blonde mullet – and at times, not much else:
The song’s lyrics see Cyrus celebrating her independence, with several lines seemingly directed at Hemsworth, with whom she was in a relationship for almost a decade: “It‘s been a long time since I felt this good on my own / Lotta years went by with my hands tied up in your ropes,” she sings in the first verse, before belting out the chorus: “I was born to run, I don‘t belong to anyone, oh no / I don‘t need to be loved by you.”
Cyrus also appears to address her brief, much-publicised relationship with Kaitlynn Carter in the wake of her split from Hemsworth: “See my lips on her mouth, everybody‘s talkin’ now, baby,” she sings.

Cyrus also addresses her relationship with her first post-Hemsworth boyfriend, Australian singer Cody Simpson: “See his hands ‘round my waist, thought you’d never be replaced, baby …”
Another line even seems to hint at Hemsworth’s alleged drinking and use of “certain drugs” – habits he denied but which Cyrus claimed had contributed to the breakdown of their relationship: “I don‘t hide blurry eyes like you.”

The song’s release comes exactly a year after Cyrus released the soaring break-up ballad Slide Away, the same week she and Hemsworth had confirmed their split. This single release comes hot on the heels of another split: Cyrus and Simpson yesterday confirmed they’d parted ways after almost a year of dating.
Slide Away came with similarly direct lyrics aimed at Hemsworth: “Baby, we were found, but now we‘re lost / So it‘s time to let it go / I want my house in the hills / Don‘t want the whiskey and pills / Move on, we‘re not seventeen / I‘m not who I used to be …”
