PETER Garrett is heading back to the pubs to launch his solo album.
The 63-year-old Midnight Oil frontman will kick off a national tour less than a week after he releases A Version Of Now on July 15.
The Oils have always maintained a live lifeline to Australia’s pub rock nursery, often playing club shows to warm up for their big gigs including the Wave Aid and Sound Relief charity concerts.
“Getting up close and physical is what live performance is all about. Being back on stage and playing these new songs will be a blast,” he said.
Garrett also revealed a new song Great White Shark from his debut solo record on Monday.
While his distinctive vocals are unmistakeable, the epic track should surprise fans with its soaring layers of voices and the chant “I want to be whole and I want to be free.”
It is one of the few songs on his record which began as a work in progress for the Oils with band mates Martin Rotsey and Jim Moginie.

Rotsey played on the record and will tour with Garrett in July. The Alter Egos band will also include former Jet bassist Mark Wilson and Paul Kelly drummer Peter Luscombe who also helped record A Version Of Now.
Acclaimed indie artist Abbe May will both open with her own set and join Garrett’s band.
Tickets for the shows go on sale from June 3.
The tour kicks off at Perth’s Art Bar on July 21, and travels to the Tivoli, Brisbane on July 29, The Gov, Adelaide, August 6, the Factory Theatre on August 11, The Playhouse, Canberra, August 14 and Athenaeum Theatre, Melbourne on August 17.
