SINGING superstar Mariah Carey has nixed her planned February 2018 tour, delaying her visit to our shores by nine months and swapping venues.
The elusive chanteuse announced a 2018 tour in October — and raised eyebrows with her unusual choice of venues, including the Melbourne Showgrounds and an outdoor performance in an amphitheatre at Parramatta Park for her only NSW show.
Weeks after the tour was announced, Carey split with her controversial manager Stella Bulochnikov, a woman who was at the helm for some of the recent disasters of Carey’s career, including her infamous New Year’s Eve botched performance.
Now, Carey has announced that the February dates are off and she’ll instead return to Australia in October 2018 — for arena concerts more befitting a woman who’s sold more than 200 million records worldwide.
“An update for my lambs in Australia and New Zealand! I have exciting news for you. We are now planning a much bigger tour in 2018! Because of this we are moving the Australia/NZ dates a few months to October. I’ll be kicking off my tour with you then and look forward to seeing you all! Until then, sending love and best wishes for a wonderful new year!” she wrote.
Carey finished her message with a butterfly emoji, leading some fans to speculate that the rescheduled tour may pay homage to her groundbreaking Butterfly album, which turned 20 this year.
While Carey has dubbed the rescheduled tour “much bigger,” it is in fact one less Australian date than the original tour, with the planned Perth date now removed from her itinerary.
Ticketholders in Perth will have their money refunded, those in Brisbane can keep their original ticket, while those who’ve bought tickets in Sydney and Melbourne will have tickets for the new venues issued by Ticketek in January.
Ticketholders for all states can seek full refunds if they’re unable to make the rescheduled shows.
Here are Mariah’s rescheduled tour dates:
Sunday 7th October — Spark Arena, Auckland
Wednesday 10th October — Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne
Friday 12th October — Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney
Sunday 14th October — Sandstone Point, Brisbane
