Madonna hits back at ‘sexist’ reports she’s drunk on stage

MADONNA, drunk or high on stage? Are you kidding? The Queen of Pop hits back claiming tabloid comments are sexist.

MADONNA has hit back at tabloid reports that she’s been under the influence on stage during her Australian tour, accusing her critics of sexism.

Last week at Madonna’s intimate Tears Of A Clown late-night Melbourne show, she sipped cocktails on stage and at times appeared emotional as she spoke to the crowd.

During her next full-scale date on the Rebel Heart tour, the Queen of Pop sipped from a flask, and made bawdy jokes between songs, begging for somebody from the crowd to “f**k her”.

Of course, she also completed a two-hour-plus, tightly choreographed show, leaving an arena full of fans satisfied, but that’s a less interesting story. In the UK and US, snippets from her onstage patter have been taken to paint Madonna as a drunk mess.

One fan, Remington Graves, penned a public Facebook post that caught Madonna’s eye:

“The latest media onslaught against Madonna is that she’s taken to being drunk on stage, which anyone who knows anything about her knows is absolutely ridiculous. Madonna is a classically trained dancer who has spent her entire life taking meticulous care of her body and health. She doesn’t drink. She doesn’t smoke. She doesn’t use drugs. She has always been, from day one, savagely devoted to her show. She’s known for it. That’s one thing. Another thing — Madonna’s show is a tightly choreographed, intricate, two-hour production, both performance-wise and with the technology she uses. One missed cue and the entire thing is interrupted. How anyone could believe she could execute her show, with the precision required to do so, and be intoxicated is beyond me. It’s called physics. It’s called logic. Use it. Madonna has never been drunk on stage,” he wrote.

Sharing the fan’s defence of his idol, Madonna added a caption of her own, pointing out that she’s “playing a character” on stage:

“Thanks for supporting me. Too bad people don’t know the art of acting and playing a character. I could never do any of my shows high or drunk. And yes underlying all of this is sexism and mysongony which proves that not only do we not get equal pay but we are still treated like heretics if we step out of line and think outside the box! Sexism is alive and kicking but I am #livingforlove.”

Madonna then shared a picture of two of her brood of children, Mercy and David Banda, with the caption: “This is my drug. Love and happiness!”

Madonna’s Rebel Heart Tour continues with dates in Brisbane tonight and tomorrow, before concluding with two Sydney shows over the weekend.
