Katy Perry confesses that she thought she was ‘the most hated person’ on the internet

Katy Perry was caught on camera making a heartbreaking confession during the latest show on her Lifetimes World Tour.

NEWS OF THE WEEK: Lily Allen apologises for 'being mean' about Katy Perry space flight

Katy Perry has revealed that she does pay attention to the fierce criticism she’s faced on social media in recent months.

Perry has become somewhat of a laughing stock online since the release of her latest album, 143, failed spectacularly on the charts alongside the critically derided lead single Woman’s World.

The backlash then intensified due to her bizarre antics surrounding her trip to space that culminated in the infamous picture of her kissing the ground after less than a handful of minutes in the air.

During the latest show of her Lifetimes Tour in Chicago, Perry seemingly addressed the all the controversy that she appears to be a magnet for in recent months.

“I thought I was the most hated person on the internet … but I think that’s false,” she said, referencing the crowd’s rapturous applause.

It’s not the first time Perry had publicly discussed the hate she has received from trolls on social media.

Describing herself as a “human piñata” and the internet as “a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed” people, Perry recently posted a message on Instagram in response to fans who had booked a celebratory billboard for her.

“Please know I am OK, I have done a lot [of] work around knowing who I am, what is real and what is important to me,” she wrote. “My therapist said something years ago that has been a gamechanger, ‘no one can make you believe something about yourself that you don’t already believe about yourself’ and if I ever do have any feelings about it then it’s an opportunity to investigate the feeling underneath it. When the ‘online’ world tries to make me a human piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, cause I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed.”

While other legs of Perry’s tour have been plagued by reports of poor ticket sales (something that’s certainly not affecting her alone – even Beyonce is struggling to sell out her Cowboy Carter stadium tour), Perry’s Aussie visit has been a popular seller, with 15 near-sold-out dates across five Australian cities.
