Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road show setlist: What Sydney fans can expect at Allianz Stadium

Elton John is set to rock Sydney within hours as part of his epic farewell tour. Here’s what could be in store for the Rocket Man’s fans.

Elton John has played 275 concerts on his seemingly eternal Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour and the setlist for Tuesday’s show at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium is (almost) set in stone.

It would be impossible for the legendary Rocket Man to fashion a setlist deemed perfect by every one of his millions of fans around the world, this one would have to come pretty close.

The 23 songs stretch out over two-and-a-half hours, their order mostly dictated by the technical demands of matching music with the brilliant visuals broadcast on the giant screens flanking the stage.

The other consideration in devising the setlist is the physical demands of singing and playing for the entirety of the show; John structures the show with breathing space.

He has tinkered here and there with the setlist order or composition during the Farewell tour’s long and winding road around the world depending on special guests or the death of a friend or peer.

The 1974 classic Bennie and The Jets has opened every show and the 1973 signature song Goodbye Yellow Brick Road has closed each performance.

The freshest track to join the illustrious canon of his hits is Cold Heart, his 2021 monster pop smash with Dua Lipa which was remixed by his longtime Australian collaborators PNAU.

The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour began in Allentown, Pennsylvania on September 8, 2018, resumed after the long pandemic pause on January 19 last year in New Orleans and is scheduled to wind up on July 8 in Stockholm.

John will have played to more than five million fans with the tour estimated to gross more than $1 billion.
