ED Sheeran has been forced to cancel a string of shows after fracturing both his arms — so what does this mean for the singer’s mammoth Australian stadium tour?

ED Sheeran’s recent injury has forced the British music superstar to cancel a string of upcoming shows — but his Australian tour promoters insist he’s still headed down under.

Sheeran injured both his arms when he was hit by a car while cycling in London.

The 26-year-old hitmaker posted an image on Instagram this week showing his right hand in a plaster cast and his other arm in a sling.

He wrote: “I’ve had a bit of a bicycle accident and I’m currently waiting on some medical advice, which may affect some of my upcoming shows.”

Today his team provided a social media update on his behalf, as his injury has left him unable to type:

“A visit to my doctors confirmed fractures in my right wrist and left elbow that will leave me unable to perform live concerts for the immediate future. Sadly, this means that the following shows will not be able to go ahead as planned: Taipei, Osaka, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong. I’m waiting to see how the healing progresses before we have to decide on shows beyond that. Please stay tuned for more details. PS — Ed isn’t typing this as he has both arms casted/bandaged,” the message read.

Sheeran was due to fly to Asia later this week for a 15-date tour of the region. He is due to head down under in March of 2018, playing a string of massive stadium shows — and his promoter, Frontier Touring, today assured fans the tour is going ahead.

“As the Australia and New Zealand leg of Ed Sheeran’s tour does not commence until March 2018, we have no reason to believe that the shows here will be affected,” they said.

Ouch.
Ouch.

We’re sure by March Ed will be fighting fit and incredibly excited about having the use of both his arms again. Rest up Ed — no more bicycles for you!”

The guitar-playing pop star has previously admitted he’s “petrified of using a band on stage,’ saying that “it’s always been me and the guitar.”

It emerged last month that Sheeran had become one of Britain’s wealthiest musicians, earning more than $AU25 million last year.
