THEY may play the world’s biggest stadiums on tour but to launch the new record Ghost Stories, Coldplay will downsize to perform at an iconic Australian theatre next month.
Coldplay joins the Rolling Stones and Oasis among the thousands of local and international bands to perform at Sydney’s art deco venue Enmore Theatre on June 19.
It will be their only concert on the six-day visit which kicks off on June 16.

But Coldplay’s chatfest will be minus any chat, with the band determined that the music will do the talking to promote their sixth studio album.
It is believed there will be no interviews during their “tour” which will instead feature pre-recorded performances for television and radio as well as the one-off concert.
No doubt it will be widely speculated the reason for the lack of chitchat is the “conscious uncoupling” of frontman Chris Martin and actor wife Gwyneth Paltrow.
They have already recorded a generic interview and television special which will air on Channel 7 a couple of days after they are broadcast in America.
Reviews for Ghost Stories, which is a dramatic sonic departure for the anthemic stadium rockers, have universally claimed it is Martin’s break-up record.
In fact, many claim it is a love letter to Paltrow rather than a raft of musical recriminations, a public outpouring about a private relationship now heading for divorce.
“I’ve lost you now, you let me go,” he sings on True Love. “But one last time, tell me you love me, if you don’t then lie to me.”
The album has been previewed on iTunes and is released today, with singles Magic, Midnight and Sky Full Of Stars graphically illustrating their minimalist approach to the recordings or dramatic sonic left-turns.
The band and their promoter have insisted on stringent conditions for tickets to the Enmore Theatre concert to thwart scalpers and reselling.
There will be a limit of two per patron per purchase only via internet and names of the fan and their guest will be printed on the ticket.
The names will be matched against photo IDs.
My Live Nation pre-sale begins at 2pm on Monday, while general tickets go on sale from 10am on Tuesday.
