CHLOE Lattanzi has vowed to continue her mother’s mission to pioneer “kinder” treatments for cancer, joining her cousin Tottie Goldsmith to work with the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness Centre.
The women launched an Instagram campaign on Monday to encourage millions of her fans to join the annual Walk for Wellness, either in person or virtually, to honour Newton-John’s legacy.
Goldsmith, who was recently visiting her cousin in California, said this year’s walk, which will raise funds for the centre’s research, would go ahead on October 9.
“I’m ridiculously happy because my beautiful cousin Chloe is jumping in, taking over the shining light of her mum, and working with us in Australia for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness Centre,” Goldsmith said in the video.
Lattanzi said she felt the “torch has been passed” by her beloved mum, who died on August 8 at 73, surrounded by her loved ones at her ranch in California after living with cancer for three decades.
“My mum’s dream was for kinder treatments for cancer and an end of cancer, really,” she said.
“So I feel the torch has been passed and this is my mission and my passion and I’m so grateful to be doing it with my beautiful cousin for my mother. “
Goldsmith said the walk was an important fundraiser for the cancer centre which Newton-John established in the years after her initial diagnosis of breast cancer in 1992 at the age of 44.
The Grease star would suffer two recurrences of the disease throughout her life before her death in August.
It is believed the official State memorial for Newton-John will be held in December with the Victorian Government and the national treasure’s family finalising the plans for the celebration of the Hopelessly Devoted To You star’s life as an entertainer, philanthropist and wellness campaigner.
