A CYCLONE and over-ambitious promoters may have put a kink in Ciara’s tour kick-off but the American pop star was all smiles yesterday as she gave a world exclusive preview of her next album Jackie in Sydney.
The 29-year-old pop r&b star had planned to do a “pop-up club” tour of New Zealand and Australia to promote new single I Bet and reconnect with fans after a five-year absence and the birth last year of her son Future Wilburn.
When she landed in Christchurch last week she discovered that her club guest appearance had been billed as an outdoor concert with expensive meet and greet tickets.
Fans understandably protested when she came on to perform for only 10 minutes as had been contractually agreed before her arrival.
Another show in Adelaide had to be cancelled when her flights were affected by Cyclone Marcia.

The rest of her performances and meet and greets with fans went ahead as planned, with fans who attended the Marquee club show in Sydney on Saturday raving about her performance.
“Cyclones and craziness but everything is good now,” she said.
“My fans have been showing me in so many ways that they are with me ... they’ve got me.
“Coming here was about feeling that good love and energy because it’s been so long.”

While it has been reported she recently broke off her engagement to her son’s father, rapper Future, Ciara said she couldn’t be happier with her life. And she is still sporting her engagement ring so maybe a reconciliation is on the cards.
“I think happiness starts with you and you can conquer anything, change the energy of your universe by expressing happiness. I feel pretty darn good,” she said.
The album, named after her mother, is far from a breakup record and showcases the r&b dance star’s powerful voice for the first time.
But she will have fans reaching for tissues when they hear the ballad I Got You, penned by one of the world’s greatest songwriters Diane Warren for Ciara and her son.
She included her personal version of the Hush Little Baby lullaby and her son giggling along at the beginning of the song.
Ciara shed tears as she shared the beautiful song with her record label executives on Monday.
The album also proudly references the model and actor’s determination to shed the 27 kgs she gained during her pregnancy.
“It was quite a challenge but doing that is a form of strength and gives you what you need to keep pushing through cuz baby gotta eat and baby ain’t cheap,” she said, laughing.
Ciara plans to return to Australia to launch the Jackie record mid year.
