Fans of the blockbuster Wicked movie have taken to social media to share their outrage after a deleted scene made its way online for the first time.

The movie became a breakout smash hit upon its release in November, and has since gone on to become one of the highest grossing films of 2024.

With the movie set to appear on paid streaming imminently, some deleted scenes from the musical have been released online.

Some of the clips include full scenes without completed CGI, and one in particular has left fans baffled as to why it was never included in the film.

During the story, Elphaba and Glinda make their way to the Emerald City on the conveniently located high-speed rail line.

However, their journey appears to take mere seconds in the film with none of their time on the train being shown.

In the new deleted scene, the characters can be seen spending time together on the train with the clip making it clear that the journey took a substantial period of time.

Fans have rushed to social media after seeing the video to share their confusion over such a “vital” scene ending up on the cutting room floor.

“The movie needed this! it looked like Shiz was 100m away from the Emerald City,” remarked one.

A fan on TikTok said: “Why didn’t they keep the train scenes??? It would’ve solidified the fact that they grew really close to each other.”

Another added: “Yeah I felt like some development was missing between them, and the train scenes fed that need for me.”

“NOTHING should’ve been left out,” someone else wrote, while a different X user added: “Omg we were robbed, they should’ve kept this scene.”

After its run in cinemas, Wicked will officially be available to rent or buy from Monday, January 6 in Australia on all movie rental platforms.

Bonus content in the digital release includes a singalong version, plus a 40-minute journey through Oz that “celebrates the film’s transformative on-screen magic,” and other material.

The film was recently nominated for four Golden Globes including best motion picture – musical or comedy and acting nods for Erivo and Grande.

Meanwhile, Grande has shot up the rankings and is currently one of the favourites to take home the award for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars this year.
