Dakota Johnson has hit the promo trail for her new film Madam Web – and a couple of interviews have made headlines.
Johnson is famed for her legendary interview moments that include her call-out out of Ellen DeGeneres and confession to having lied in an Architectual Digest interview about her love of limes, and now she’s delivered two more.
Her most recent interview was on Late Night with Seth Meyers overnight where host Seth Meyers brought up that he and Johnson were “co-stars” in the “final episode of the hit sitcom” The Office back in 2013.
Although Johnson said she was fan of the show, she admitted that filming her cameo was disappointing.
“That was honestly the worst time of my life,” she told Meyers. “They were like, ‘Do you want to be in the series finale?’ And I was like, ‘Of course,’ thinking that I’d show up for like half a day,” Johnson said. “I was there for two weeks. And I’m barely in the f***ing show.”
She then said it was made more unpleasant because of the vibe on set.
“There were weird dynamics that had been going on for the last 10 years,” she added. “Some people didn’t speak to each other. And I’m coming in like ‘So excited to be here!’ No one wanted to talk to me. No one gave a f**k.”
Just one day prior, Johnson divided social media after appearing to grow increasingly “mad” during another seriously awkward interview.
The movie star has been accused of looking “mad” during a particularly awkward interview with a journalist at Huff Post after she was asked about a “moment that went viral” from Madame Web’s trailer.
“What was it?” she asked.
“It was a line that says: ‘He was in the Amazon with my mum when she was researching spiders right before she died,’” replied the interviewer.
A clearly confused Johnson said: “Why did that go viral?”
“I think it went viral because, out of context, what does it mean?” replied the journalist.
“Somebody brought this up earlier and I have no idea what it’s about. Isn’t any sentence out of context … out of context … what a silly thing,” she replied dryly. “He was in the Amazon researching spiders with my mum before she died. That seems like a basic storyline to me? Maybe I’m just underneath it.”
Fans rushed to share the clip on social media and cringe at Johnson’s responses, with one saying: “Damn, she looks mad. This is awkward.”
Another said: “She doesn’t seem likeable here,’ while a third said: “The silence is unbearable!”
However, others leapt to the movie star’s defence, saying: “I’m with Dakota, I don’t get it,” and another added: “The journalist didn’t explain it right. People were laughing because it’s overly expository.”
A third said in Johnson’s defence: “This is one of those cases where it’s not productive to bring up a viral meme to the actor in question because the joke’s on how bad the script is and it puts her in an uncomfortable position!”
Meanwhile, Johnson recently hit back at criticism over her claims that she needs “14 hours sleep”.
“Why is sleep bad?” she asked in response to her 14-hour snoozes going viral. “Like, why? Leave me alone — I’m just asleep!”
