Patrick Stewart was less than excited for his role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
During an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast on January 4, the legendary actor, 83, opened up about his experience filming the Marvel movie, in which he appeared as Professor X.
“It was alone,” Stewart explained, reports the New York Post. “I think the big scene, each one of the leading actors had the same experience. They were shot on their own. It was frustrating and disappointing but that’s how it has been. The last few years have been challenging.”
In the 2022 sequel, Stewart’s iconic X-Men character appears when Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) meets with the all powerful Illuminati comprised of Charles Xavier, Mr. Fantastic (John Krasinski), Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch) and Captain Britain (Hayley Atwell). Things don’t go according to plan however when the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) appears and murders all members of the elite group.
Despite his character meeting his demise, Stewart is not sure if fans have truly seen the last of Professor X. In fact, there are talks that his character might appear in another film that is a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
He confirmed to host Josh Horowitz that talks about resurrecting Professor X in Deadpool 3 have “come up.”
“I have every confidence he’s still around,” Stewart quipped “The last two or three years have been so difficult with the labour problems and the health problems and Covid,” he added, seemingly referring to the recent SAG-AFTRA strike.
Deadpool 3, which is set to premiere in July, stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular character and is the only MCU movie hitting theatres this year.
Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is also set to appear in the film.
“It’s not like adding Hugh Jackman to a movie like this is a hard sell. It’s an immediate and emphatic, unqualified yes,” Reynolds told Collider in November 2022.
“It’s a lot of moving parts and Fox and X-Men and all that kind of stuff that Marvel needs to sort through. A lot of red tape in order to make that happen. And they did it.”
