Nicole Kidman has revealed the problem she has with Australian moviegoers compared to those in Europe.

The Australian actor’s most recent project was erotic drama Babygirl, which sees her fall for a much younger man.

In a new interview, Kidman insisted that realistic sex scenes should replace the glossier portrayals in many Hollywood movies because “it’s a huge part of who we are as human beings”.

However, she believes that it’s difficult with film fans in Australia, America and England because they all have different attitudes towards sex.

“I think sex is still not explored enough on screen, particularly in American films. European cinema is a different matter; it’s just part of what they do,” she told The Sun.

She continued: “But America, England, Australia — we don’t talk about it.”

Kidman previously shared that by the time filming had come to an end she had grown “tired” of acting out orgasms on set.

The Oscar-winner added: “There was an enormous amount of sharing and trust and then frustration. It’s like, don’t touch me. There were times when we were shooting where I was like, I don’t want to orgasm any more. Don’t come near me. I hate doing this.

“I don’t care if I am never touched again in my life! I’m over it. It was so present all the time for me that it was almost like a burnout.”

The film, directed by Dutch filmmaker Halina Reijn, features one of Kidman’s most sexually-charged roles yet, portraying Romy, a high-powered CEO whose affair with a much younger intern threatens to unravel her life.

British actor Harris Dickinson plays the intern, with Antonio Banderas as her husband, Jacob.

Kidman has already received critical recognition for her performance in Babygirl following the film’s premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where she was awarded Best Actress.

The director of the movie shared a note from Kidman upon accepting the award, revealing the star was unable to attend due to the death of her mother.

“Today I arrived in Venice to find out shortly after, that my beautiful, brave mother Janelle Ann Kidman has just passed,” it read.

“I am in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her, she shaped me, she guided me, and she made me.

“I am beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina, the collision of life and art is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken.”
