According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kidman and Bullock will reprise their roles as Gillian and Sally Owens, respectively, as well as produce the film alongside original producer Denise Di Novi.

In the 1998 film, the duo played two orphaned witch sisters who are raised by their eccentric aunts, Aunt Frances (Stockard Channing) and Aunt Jet (Dianne Wiest) in a small town in Massachusetts.

The siblings are desperate to shake off their family’s curse which sees any man who falls in love with them die, so they attempt a ritual to break the spell and find everlasting love.

“I love that movie,” Kidman said at the Oscars in 2018, when briefly reunited with Bullock on the red carpet.

“I showed that movie to my kids. It’s a little above their [level of understanding] … But we’re really good sisters.”

Bullock then recalled her favourite memory from the film – a moment which is known by fans as the “midnight margaritas” scene.

“We were talking about when we shot [the movie] together, and we asked her to get the tequila; she came back with her own tequila, but we drank it anyway. We were a little drunk,” Bullock said of Kidman.

Practical Magic debuted at No. 1 at the US box office at the time and grossed a total of $US46.7 million during its run.

Although, it did not bring in the big bucks, the movie has since reached cult classic status and catapulted Kidman and Bullock to the top of the Hollywood set.

The film is based on Alice Hoffman’s book of the same name and in 2019, Max reportedly bought rights to its prequel novel, The Rules of Magic, which they had hoped to turn into a spin-off series.

That deal fell through, but producer Denise Di Novi said it was for the best.

“There is something else that’s going to happen that is still a secret,” she teased back in February in an interview with industry news site UPI.

“But I think the fans are going to be thrilled. It’s not The Rules of Magic, which I did develop for television, but it’s in the world of Practical Magic.”
