Will Ryan Gosling star in Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy’s new Star Wars film?

There’s no doubt Ryan Gosling is a force in Hollywood and now the Canadian actor is in talks with the director of “Deadpool & Wolverine” for a major movie project.

Actor Ryan Gosling is in talks to lead director Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars movie.

The three-time Oscar nominee and Canadian national treasure is currently in negotiations to top-line the highly secretive project that the “Deadpool & Wolverine” director is collaborating on with screenwriter Johnathan Tropper, of “The Adam Project” and “This is Where I Leave You” fame.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, should Gosling sign on to star in the movie, the as-yet-untitled project would shoot to the front of Disney and Lucasfilm’s production queue with filming earmarked to start as early as Christmas 2025.

It is not known what character Levy has in mind for the “Barbie” and “La La Land” star or what the plot entails but Tropper has been working on a script for well over a year while Levy has been invested in the project since 2022, according to the THR.

Levy’s project is said to be a stand-alone movie with no connection to the Skywalker saga that concluded with “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019 after grossing $A821m at the US box office and $A1.7 billion worldwide.

Nothing else about Levy and Tropper’s Star Wars project is known but the next Star Wars movie to hit cinemas will be The Mandalorian and Grogu, scheduled for May 2026.

There is an untitled Star Wars movie on the release calendar for December 17, 2027.

If “The Fall Guy” star’s box office force is anything to go by, a Ryan Gosling Star Wars movie could potentially be a historic box office hit.

Starring as Ken alongside Margot Robbie in “Barbie”, Gosling helped deliver Warner Bros its highest grossing movie ever making $A2.3 billion.
