Margot Robbie had a huge year last year, and her success looks set to continue as she continues her journey toward becoming one of the richest stars in Hollywood.

While acting has always been her passion, Robbie spent her spare time following in Reese Witherspoon’s footsteps and quietly building her own production company from the ground up.

While Robbie is currently worth around $60 million ($40 millon AUD), which is markedly less than Witherspoon’s reported $400 million ($264 million AUD), the Aussie star’s fortune looks set to skyrocket if her business decisions to continue to be as spot-on as they were last year.

Robbie earned an estimated $50 million ($33 million AUD) from her acting and producing salaries for megahit Barbie last year, which has so far grossed more than $1.4 billion ($920 million AUD) internationally.

But Robbie also had her hand in another smash hit that audiences around the world talking; thriller film Saltburn, which starred fellow Aussie actor Jacob Elordi.

The controversial film became one of the year’s most talked about films, and just like Barbie, is pipped to be in with a chance for Oscar success this year when the nominations are released.

The star’s production company, LuckyChap, co-founded by her husband Tom Ackerley and friend Josey McNamara, is now based in Los Angeles and has become synonymous with critical acclaim after being behind Barbie and Saltburn, as well as celebrated biopic I, Tonya and Carrey Muligan’s Promising Young Woman.

The success looks set to continue into 2024 and beyond with the company set to develop a spin on the Ocean’s franchise, as well as partnering with filmmaker Olivia Wilde on Naughty, a Christmas comedy that’s been likened to “Bridesmaids” at the North Pole.

“God, if every year could be like this one!” Robbie told Variety. “We swing for the fences, and sometimes you hit it out of the park and it’s amazing. But even if you didn’t hit it out of the park, you can’t not keep taking those big swings.”

Back in 2021, Witherspoon became the richest actress in Hollywood when she sold her production company for a whopping $900 million. With the path Robbie is currently on, there’s no telling what the Aussie icon could be worth in just a few years time if she plays her cards right.
