Glen Powell’s mum and dad took it up a notch by roasting his star status at the premiere of his new Netflix movie Hit Man in his hometown of Austin, Texas, on Wednesday.
As the US actor walked the red carpet at The Paramount Theatre to pose for photos, his parents Glen Sr. and Cyndy stood behind him and held up homemade signs that poked fun of their son.
“Stop trying to make Glen Powell happen,” read his mother’s sign, while his dad held one that read, “It’s never gonna happen.”
Powell later shared the picture of the playful stunt on Instagram, joking that “The Hit Man” had been “killed by his own parents”.
The actor – who plays a professor posing as a hit man in the film – also told Entertainment Tonight that his parents’ antics were inspired by all the negative social media posts they’ve read about his recent career success in films such as Top Gun: Maverick opposite Tom Cruise and Anyone But You with Sydney Sweeney.
Stream Hit Man from June 7 on Netflix, available on Hubbl.
“I don’t read tweets but my parents read tweets — so if you’re talking sh*t, know that my parents are reading those tweets,” he told the outlet.
Powell is indeed very close to his parents and they feature heavily on his social media.

The star never fails to greet his mum on Mother’s Day, calling her “The Ultimate Wingwoman” one year, and the next year saying he is “Powered by SuperMom”.
And on Father’s Day last year, Powell posted a photo with his dad captioned: “Father. Friend. Coach. Hero.”
Last November, the actor also took time out of his busy schedule to take a trip to Washington, D.C. to celebrate a milestone anniversary in his parents’ marriage.
“Quick trip to the foot of the Jefferson Memorial…where 40 years ago my dad proposed to my mom,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “Happy Anniversary, you two. Lucky to have your love in my life every day.”
