MasterChef fan hilariously fails to recognise Julie Goodwin

A podcast guest was talking about MasterChef winner Julie Goodwin, completely oblivious to the fact she was sitting next to her.

A popular podcast descended into hysterics when a guest started speaking about Julie Goodwin, without realising she was actually sitting next to the MasterChef winner at the time.

The hilarious moment happened on the PodVan Podcast, which is recorded in the back of a retro caravan that’s been renovated into a mobile podcast studio.

It’s hosted by radio veteran Dave ‘Rabbit’ Rabbetts, occasionally joined by his former Star 104.5 offsider, Julie Goodwin.

The podcast features interviews with members of the public who Rabbit meets as he drives the ‘PodVan’ around NSW.

Fan hilariously fails to recognise Julie Goodwin right next to her

In a recent episode recorded on the Gosford waterfront, a Welsh woman named Val jumped into the van for a chat with Rabbit and Julie.

Val explained to the hosts that she moved to Australia two and a half years ago with her husband Steve, and that they were in the process of relocating from Tasmania to Queensland.

At one stage during the chat, talk turned to TV, and Rabbit asked Val if she had ever watched MasterChef Australia.

When she said yes, Rabbit challenged Val to name the first ever winner of the show (unaware she was sitting next to her).

“Oh, I just saw it the other night and it was mentioned who won it the first time,” Val replied.

“She makes guest appearances on the show, doesn’t she, and she’s got a book out now (Your Time Starts Now) about her struggles and her depression,” she continued, still oblivious to the fact Julie was literally 30cm away from her.

“I can see her face, but I can’t remember her name,” Val said.

Rabbit and Julie could barely contain their giggles, and neither could Val’s husband, Steve, who was watching from outside the van.

“The lights are on but nobody’s home,” Steve said about his wife, much to the amusement of the hosts.

Eventually Val recalled the winner’s name was ‘Julie’, but she still couldn’t quite picture her so she decided to google ‘MasterChef Australia season one winner’.

Even when Val was looking at images of Julie, it took at least 30 seconds for the penny to drop.

And then she put it together.

“Sod off!” Val said sheepishly.

“Have you just realised?” Rabbit asked.

“Yes, I have,” Val said, as everyone erupted in laughter.

When the cackling stopped, Rabbit told Val, “A big thing with this podcast is we just try and put a smile on peoples faces and have a laugh, and what you’ve just done is going to put so many smiles on faces.”
