Love it or hate it? The boldest Golden Globes red carpet looks
SARAH Jessica Parker seemed to be dressed as a Star Wars character, while other stars took big fashion risks on the Golden Globes red carpet. Which ones paid off?

HOLLYWOOD’S finest turned out for the Golden Globe Awards today — and thankfully, many weren’t afraid to experiment when it came to the red carpet.
While some of the looks — Natalie Portman’s mustard maternity wear, Nicole Kidman’s puffy sleeves — weren’t without their detractors, at least they were interesting.
Here are the boldest looks from the 2017 Golden Globes red carpet:
PRINCESS LEIA?
Many red carpet commentators assumed Sarah Jessica Parker’s all-white ensemble and distinctive braided hair was a tribute to the recently departed Carrie Fisher and her most iconic role, as Princess Leia in Star Wars. Oddly, SJP insisted the connection had never even occured to her as she was prepping her look.
“I didn’t mean for that, perhaps it was in my subconscious,” Parker told NBC’s Natalie Morales. “There’s actually a photograph of my mother wearing her hair like this.”
She added: “And though we didn’t think we were gonna do this, this ended up being what we did, so perhaps it’s a tiny little nod at a very grand person.”
BABY ON BOARD
The pregnant Portman is nominated for her star turn in Jackie, and seemed to channel the late Jackie O in this bold, floor length gown — complete with near-beehive hair that seemed just a little bit country.
Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot, also rocked maternity eveningwear on the red carpet:
TUXES, TUXES, TUXES
Stars including Transparent’s Kathryn Hahn, Hidden Figures’ Octavia Spencer and Westworld’s Evan Rachel Wood all rocked tuxedos on the red carpet. Wood explained that, while she’d worn a dress to every other Golden Globes she’d attended, this year she wanted to send a message to little girls that frocking up isn’t actually compulsory.
BOLD PATTERNS
Eyecatching or eyesore? Both Transparent star Judith Light and The Girlfriend Experience actor Riley Keough donned black and white patterned looks. The jury’s out.
FLASHBACK FASHIONS
Look, on anyone else we wouldn’t be feeling this ‘Oaks Day meets 80s bridesmaid’ get-up, but singer and Hidden Figures star Janelle Monae is an actual queen so we kinda love her in this. Same goes for Nicole Kidman’s puffy-sleeved frock, below.
