Brisbane radio hosts Corey Oates and Kip Wightman have revealed how Mother’s Day in their homes didn’t exactly pan out the way they might’ve hoped.

Oates admitted he skipped out on a Mother’s Day dinner to go to the Queensland Cup game between Souths Logan Magpies and the Western Clydesdales - where suspended Brisbane Broncos player Ezra Mam was making his comeback.

“I was in trouble, there wasn’t much chatter,” the former Brisbane Broncos player revealed.

“I tried my best. I tried to keep the kids away from Tegan and let her sleep in, but Monty would not stop whinging and yelling.

“So Tegan wakes up and gets all the presents and I had some flowers in the sink ready to give to her. Huxley carried the big bunch of flowers that were bigger than him.

“Then I got the kids outside ... they’re playing, I am trying to teach Monty how to ride a bike with no training wheels, and I started sanding this chair I had because I’m like, ‘I just got to stay out here as long as possible’.

“And then we went to mum and dad’s for mid-afternoon dinner - I went to the footy.”

Meanwhile Wightman enjoyed a strong start to the day, before it started to unravel.

“I started strong, but I finished very poorly,” Wightman said.

“I started so strong, honestly, my start was impeccable.

“I organised the gift that she wanted, I got Rafael to make her a card by hand - he drew a picture and I wrote the words.

“I got Sienna to make a card, I did the handprint, the painted handprint, and wrote all around it, booked breakfast down the road.”

However, his effort started to drop at around 11am, much to the displeasure of his partner Nyomie Essa.

“Well, I just ran out of steam, I ran out of steam,” he said.

“By 11 o’clock, I just had things to do around the house. I needed to put up the baby gates - so I wasn’t having fun, but I stopped doing the majority of the child care.”

Wightman said when he and his partner went to bed he noticed his partner’s mood.

“I noticed there was a frosty silence,” he said.

“I said ‘are you mad at me?’

“And she goes ‘I’m not mad, I just thought you would do more today, you should have done more with looking after Sienna for me’.”
