Jason Momoa has been spotted enjoying a day out on the Gold Coast, as his latest blockbuster movie makes national headlines for erratic viewer behaviour.

Why cops are being called to Minecraft Movie screenings

Hollywood star Jason Momoa has popped up on the Gold Coast.

The US actor, 45, enjoyed a day at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary in the Queensland city’s south this week, where he visited the park’s Wildlife Hospital.

Momoa, whose latest film A Minecraft Movie is on track to hit the coveted billion-dollar mark at the box office, could be seen getting up close and personal with a koala in a video posted on his Instagram page.

“Oh man. That’s so cute. [It’s] a little baby,” the Aquaman star said.

Momoa’s visit came as part of his ambassadorship for European ice cream brand Nuii, in which the star loaned his voice to help the company spread the word about koala conservation.

“They [Nuii] flew me down here to meet with the amazing teams that are helping out with our koalas, so we can have them for the next generation,” Momoa said in a video.

“I had an amazing time learning about them and the critical conversation they’re doing here.”

Elsewhere in the video, Momoa helped staff return a koala to the wild.

Adding in an Instagram caption, Momoa wrote, “Did you know koalas are now endangered? As a brand inspired by adventure (Nuii) is on a mission to help protect the world’s wildest places and that includes these furry guys!”

The Game of Thrones star is no stranger to visiting Australia, and has returned several times since his lengthy stint here filming Aquaman in 2017.

Meanwhile, Momoa’s Minecraft film has been making headlines locally thanks to erratic behaviour from teenagers at cinemas.

Chaos erupts in a Melbourne Minecraft Movie screening

Videos posted to social media show young adults ripping off their shirts, throwing food in the air and yelling at the screen, sparking mass complaints from parents bringing their young children to see the movie.

One scene in particular has sparked a viral challenge urging patrons to cause as much chaos as possible when Jack Black’s character says the phrase: “Chicken jockey.”

In a TikTok clip, teens could be seen erupting before police later escort them out of the venue.

Another showed a teenage boy throwing a giant bag of popcorn over unsuspecting cinemagoers trying to enjoy the film.

One sign at a cinema in the UK urged patrons: “Disruptive behaviour, including taking part in TikTok trends, before, during, or after a screening will not be tolerated. Anyone causing disruption will be asked to leave, and where necessary, the police will be called.”
