“Stuffed it up”: Nathan Brown admits he got it wrong with Charlie Curnow sledge

He’s normally the one calling out the media's mistakes, but Channel 9's Nathan Brown has admitted he got it wrong after sledging Carlton forward Charlie Curnow last week.

Time On is your wrap up of all the footy gossip and banter.

‘Stuffed it up’: Nathan Brown admits Curnow sledge blunder

Nathan Brown has admitted he “stuffed it up” after sledging Carlton forward Charlie Curnow last week.

But the Sunday Footy Show panellist said he stands by the criticism of Curnow high-fiving his Collingwood opponents — despite it being at the start of the game and not three-quarter time as he’d stated.

Brown’s former colleague Kane Cornes had a crack at him for the oversight given he fronts a media watchdog segment called Media-Ocre.

“In the break (I knew it was wrong) when every person known to man gave it to me on Twitter and called me every name under the sun,’’ Brown said on Triple M’s Thursday Rub.

“I made a mistake. It’s just the time thing, start of the game with three quarter time, doesn’t change my opinion that I don’t like seeing my superstars when they’ve lost so many games, high-fiving and laughing and everything’s great at the moment. No, not everything’s great and I stuffed it up.

“I know that it made everybody feel good because I do Media-Ocre and every now and again you’ve got to be prepared to put your chin out and cop it on the chin. I copped about eight on the chin this week. I’m accepting of that.”

Suits you to a Tee, Daisy

Dale Thomas has opened up about his other sporting love and new passion project.

The AFL star turned commentator, who will soon welcome a baby with wife Natasha, is hosting golf show called Teeing Off on 7Mate and has released his own golf clothing collaboration with Found.

“Golf has been an exciting process,’’ said Thomas, who has a 10 handicap.

“Found Golf has been a really cool thing to be a part of with Lance Peach and Ellen Keillar.

“Your traditional golf gear isn’t exactly trendy... you can wear this to the course or wherever you need to be. Athsleisure at its best.

“I love golf and it’s been the one thing since I retired that really gave me that competitiveness that I’ve missed.”

Thomas hosted a launch at Hotel Collingwood on Saturday night with support from Jack Silvagni, Heath Shaw, Bree and Geoff Ogilvy, Darcy Vescio, Zak Fisher and Ollie Hollands.

Too soon? Comedian’s mushroom gag falls flat with Roughy

A joke from Lawrence Mooney about mushroom killer Erin Patterson fell a bit flat — maybe it was just too soon — with Front Bar guest Jarryd Roughead on Wednesday night.

The Hawthorn great was born in Leongatha where Patterson served the poisonous beef wellingtons to her relatives — three of whom died. She was on Monday found guilty of the crime.

Host Andy Maher introduced Roughead as a favourite son of Leongatha.

Fill-in panellist Mooney said: “Earlier in the season Dyson Heppell was in, that was thrilling, two great sons of Leongatha. I suppose the big question is — do you know the mushroom lady?”

Looking surprised, Roughead said: “We all do don’t we?”

Mooney continued: “Leongatha, small country town … smaller now.”

Roughead didn’t seem too impressed by the introduction but warmed up as the topic switched to football and his illustrious career.

At the 2021 census, Leongatha had a population of 5869 people.

‘Pretty special’: Big names attend launch of ‘hoops heaven’

Collingwood’s big names Nick Daicos and Isaac Quaynor joined star power at the launch of CourtSide on Wednesday night, hosted by Australian basketball stars Josh Giddey and Dyson Daniels.

Among the crowd in Port Melbourne were pop and TV star Dannii Minogue, a keen basketball fan who was captured with one of the CourtSide owners Chris Moore.

There are three full basketball courts, two half courts and six shooting bays.

“I love coming back to Melbourne. It’s always nice to get back and spend time with friends and family. I love getting to the G too to watch my Tigers play,’’ Daniels said.

“CourtSide really is a hoops heaven; it has everything basketball fans could want. I’m excited for people to be able to check it out. I have my first Vouseti store here at CourtSide too. To have my own brand here is pretty special for me.”

‘We love a narcissist’: Ugle-Hagan’s ex breaks silence on split

Jamarra Ugle-Hagan’s ex partner, fitness influencer Liv Kelly, has made her first comments since their split last year.

Kelly posted a cryptic video to TikTok, alluding to uncovering some disturbing behaviour about someone she’d tried to protect.

“When you kept silent to protect them But find out what they were actually doing when you weren’t there,’’ Kelly wrote.

“Their projections is their actions.”

In response to a comment that she should go on a podcast she wrote: “Same but they don’t even deserve the air time.” She also added: “We love a narcissist.”

One follower commented “JUH”.

Ugle-Hagan and Kelly, who hasn’t sought the limelight, had been living together before they quietly separated.

The Bulldogs forward has taken time away from the Western Bulldogs to deal with personal matters and hasn’t played a game this season.

‘Tinder just crashed’: Bailey Smith’s latest move lights up internet

On the subject of relationships, Geelong’s Bailey Smith is about to crash dating app Tinder.

Considered one of footy’s most eligible bachelors, Smith said he’s on board with the dating app’s new double dating feature.

“Got a pretty busy schedule sometimes so it’s hard to get out there but being able to hang out with a mate and also go on a date is pretty fun so enjoying that at the minute,’’ he said.

The comments section lit up as you’d expect.

“This just in: @tinder has crashed,’’ commented Courtney Act.

“Hey mate, thought you’d be struggling to get dates. Good to see you trying tinder out,” said Nedd Brockmann.

Tinder replied: “We’re hanging on by a thread here.”

‘Who signed you?’: Premiership Pie hits back at Cornes criticism

Kane Cornes is fired up and feuding again, this time with Collingwood premiership player and former Lion Dayne Beams.

Cornes came off the long run when Beams commented on a Channel 7 post highlighting his comments about Richmond’s Noah Balta: “He (Noah Balta) genuinely looks like he’s playing another sport — and someone has signed him until the end of 2032.”

Beams wrote: “Who signed you? I’d like some accountability for that.”

Cornes noted Beams’ dud record after he was dramatically traded back to Collingwood from Brisbane after the 2018 season and only played nine more games.

“Well you are the expert on clubs butchering trades and contracts. Collingwood still paying you?”

Beams had the last word.

“Don’t be salty about me running rings around you Kane. At your best you were average champion yet now you make comment on players that were 10 times the player you were. Makes sense.”

Cornes has exchanged barbs with many former players including some who have now become colleagues at Channel 7.

He also didn’t miss old colleagues, taking a swipe at Nathan Brown on the Sunday Footy Show for his take on Carlton’s Charlie Curnow giving a high five to Collingwood defenders.

He said it was at three quarter-time when the vision was from before the game.

“If you run a segment called Media-Ocre, you’d wanna make sure it’s actually the right vision,’’ Cornes said on The Agenda Setters.

Major error in show’s Ian Wilson tribute

Caroline Wilson’s father Ian passed away last week and while paying tribute to the revered former Richmond president, age 91, her own program made a major error.

On The Agenda Setters Monday night host Craig Hutchison paid tribute to Wilson going into the first ad break.

An image of Bill Barrot was used instead of Wilson.

The only problem was the wrong image was shown — it was in fact dual premiership Tiger Bill Barrot and not Wilson. It appears the image was linked to a google search of an article by The Age.

On the Channel 7 app where the episode can be replayed, it was removed and replaced with a solo picture of Ian Wilson.

‘What can’t this man do’: Tigers young gun wows fans

Richmond’s unlucky young gun Sam Lalor is the talk of the town for more than just his injury woes.

While the no. 1 draft pick battles hamstring problems he’s pulling the right string with his guitar and his musical talents coming to the fore.

In his debut on TikTok, posted before the match on Saturday, Lalor uploaded a video doing a cover version of Zach Bryan’s hit Madeline.

It’s gone viral with many calling for a collab between Lalor and Adelaide star Izak Rankine who is also seriously talented.

“What can’t this man do,’’ social media sensations Shepmates commented.

“This is dope,’’ wrote Collingwood’s Isaac Quaynor.

“Elite,’’ commented Bulldogs’ Cody Weightman.

“This is tuff,’’ said GWS forward Aaron Cadman.

Earlier in the year Lalor went viral for a very different reason — due to his, ah, preference to go commando on the footy field.

The 18 year-old saw the funny side of all the talk and memes doing the rounds, saying he’d been sent a big package from Bonds, offering him “some extra support”.

Maybe there’s a music label or promoter who could come to the party to offer him a deal while he’s rehabbing those precious young legs.

Awkward text message at centre of TJ-Wimbledon controversy

Tony Jones was back in the hosting chair on the Sunday Footy Show after last week’s absence with a message to all those curious over his position: “Just move on”.

Jones’ replacement host Nathan Brown and panellist Damian Barrett responded to conjecture — largely from their former colleague Kane Cornes — over why Jones and the program had dodged any mention of his axing from Nine’s Wimbledon coverage.

“Is there any danger that you could possibly say thank you to me and Damian for fielding all the questions about you last week,’’ Brown said on Sunday.

“We have just been dodging grenades all week — what’s wrong with TJ? Where is he? We look after you and then you go and be ‘holiday Jones’ last week.”

Barrett in particular offered a stern response to Cornes, labelling him a “smart a …” for suggesting the program had taken a “few short steps”.

“We’ve been wearing bullets all week, I was looking after you, I had your back,’’ Barrett said.

Jones said he went with his wife to Newcastle for a break last weekend.

“I’m big enough and ugly enough to be able to look after myself,’’ he said.

“Everyone seems to be obsessed with my profession except me at the moment. How about we all just move on and actually concentrate on reporting on football stories.”

Amid the jest and theatre it was revealed fellow panellist Rory Sloane had accidentally texted Jones congratulating him on going to Wimbledon.

“I wasn’t rubbing salt into the wounds,’’ Sloane insisted.

Jones said: “(I got it and) thought so young and innocent isn’t he.”

Barrett had spoken on his podcast, The Sounding Board, saying they had acknowledged Jones’ Australian Open and Novak Djokovic incident earlier in the year, but admitted at the time they had been silenced by management.

“I spoke about it with Nathan Brown prior to the show (last week), but there wasn’t even, do we discuss it or not? It was just, there’s no need to go there,’’ Barrett said.
