Home And Away’s Matt Evans had ‘no clue’ he scored a nomination for the Logies

Home And Away’s resident heart-throb has admitted he had “no clue” he was getting nominated for a Logie and found out in an unusual way.

Up-and-coming actor Matt Evans had no clue he was getting nominated for a Logie until his colleague texted him congratulating him on the morning they were announced.

“I didn’t see it coming at all, I knew that there were nominations happening on the weekend,” he said.

“I got a text from a fellow cast mate and I found that way. It was a massive surprise, it was something I joked about but didn’t really think was possible.”

The Home And Away star was nominated on Sunday Night’s Logie’s Awards for the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent award for his role as Theo on the long running soap.

Evans was up against tough competition including Melanie Bracewell for her show The Cheap Seats and Will Lodder from Love Me, with The News Breakfast presenter Tony Armstrong taking out the gong on the night.

Evans said the night of the Logies was “eventful”, but most of the excitement came from the afterparty where there was even a special guest appearance.

“Ray (Meagher) was there for a good stint to celebrate our accomplishment,” he said.

“We danced, let our hair down and got to enjoy each other’s company for a full night – which was really special.”

Home And Away took out the Logie for the Most Popular Drama on Sunday night with Evans saying the cast was “proud” of their hard work.

“I’ve been loving working on the show, I’ve had the absolute pleasure of working so closely with my co stars like James Stewart, he’s so fun … I’ve had some really good mentors around me,” he said.

And although the 25-year-old is loving the acting scene at the moment, he says heading back to his musical roots will always be on the table.

“I’m taking every day as it comes … I still love music a lot, and I’ve always known that it’s a goal of mine to release some music at some point,” he said.
