Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts (BINGE)

Get your jug of butterbeer ready, the Harry Potter reunion is officially coming to screens in Australia.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the magical franchise, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are reuniting with their co-stars for the hugely-anticipated reunion special, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.

The special – following the success of the Friends reunion earlier this year -will stream on Binge on New Year’s Day in Australia, at the same time as the rest of the world, the streaming platform announced today.

The main trio will be joined by filmmaker Chris Columbus and a host of other cast members as they venture back to the Hogwarts set at Warner Bros. Studios London, two decades after the premiere of the debut film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and a decade after it wrapped with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Co-stars including Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch, and Ian Hart, among others, will also feature.

Author J.K. Rowling is not scheduled to appear in the special, following backlash over her controversial transgender comments.

According to an official press release, the reunion will “tell an enchanting making-of story through all-new, in-depth interviews and cast conversations”.

In addition, Binge will also stream the four-part special event Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses hosted by Academy Award-winning actress Helen Mirren from January 15, while all eight films are also available to stream on the platform.

“The Harry Potter franchise is a global sensation, with a fanbase that spans every corner of the globe. Binge is thrilled to be able to bring these special events to the millions of Australian fans who have read the books, watched the films and grown-up with the magic of Harry Potter – continuing our commitment of delivering the world’s best shows and TV’s biggest moments to viewers,” Binge executive director Alison Hurbert-Burns said.

“Next year will be the year to celebrate Harry Potter and the joy it brought to people around the world.”

Watson, 31, recently shared a throwback photo of herself with Grint, 33, and Radcliffe, 32, when they first scored their respective roles as Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and Harry Potter back in the early 2000s, expressing her excitement for the reunion.

“Harry Potter was my home, my family, my world and Hermione (still is) my favourite fictional character of all time. I think a journalist once said it was irritating how many times during an interview I mentioned how lucky I was and started counting … BUT I DAMN WELL KNEW! And still know,” she wrote.

“I am proud not just of what we as group contributed as actors to the franchise but also as the children that became young adults that walked that path. I look at my fellow cast members now and I am just so proud of who everyone has become as people. I am proud we were kind to each other that we supported one another and that we held up something meaningful,” she continued. “Happy 20th Anniversary Potterheads!”
