From thorn in Dan Andrews’ side to taking the mickey: How WAG Bec Judd is working her profile to cash in
A former model and weathergirl, queen WAG Bec Judd has used her influence to fight crime and provoke premiers — now she’s taking the mickey out of herself. And it’s paying off big-time.

Bec Judd had us at Briiiiighton.
Staring straight down the barrel of the camera in a red dress, not THAT red dress but you get the drift, Judd announced herself as “your favourite Aussie WAG”.
So often our WAGs are whingeing about the moniker or outdated term, or as was the case this week, telling us mere mortals how tough life is to be one.
It’s a “harder job than a CEO” were the words Nathan Buckley’s ex Brodie Ryan used to describe the difficult life as a wife or girlfriend of an AFL star. Cry me a river. It’s no wonder there is often more than a bit of eye rolling and sniggers when they start spruiking the next product.
But no one gets the “noise” more than the Juddster. The wife of dual Brownlow medallist, premiership player and former Carlton captain Chris Judd, she was quite literally the one who put WAGs on the map following THAT red dress ruby rug plunger 21 years ago.
She is the OG of WAG influencers in Australia, quickly adopting a staggering social media following when Instagram came into the fore in late 2010. She later learnt how to turn the popularity and intrigue into big business, with product endorsements and ambassadorships from Paul Bram diamonds to Land Rover and Crown Melbourne, cha-chinging all the way to the bank.
There have since been many reincarnations of Judd. Weather presenter Judd. Model and face of Myer Judd. Mother-of-four Judd. Interior designer Judd. Beauty warrior Judd.
Amid Daniel Andrews’ draconian pandemic lockdowns we even saw a new iteration, that of crime-fighting Judd, one that slammed high burglary and assault rates around her Bayside Brighton ‘burb. Such was the lady in red rose’s thorn in the Premier’s side, it had him resort to taking public jibes and low blows at her for highlighting her crime fears in the leafy suburb. And let’s be honest, with knife wielding attacks and car jacking in the paper every day across Melbourne, she was onto something. Clever Judd.
But just when we thought every facet, storyline and narrative had been delved into and scrutinised one clickbaiting headline after another, it turns out there was more to come.
In an era where everyone is so serious, prudishly politically correct, it’s refreshing to see the Juddster take the mickey out of herself compared to the carefully curated and scripted image we are so often given from our WAGs.
“Hi I’m Bec Judd, your favourite Aussie WAG and welcome to my very aesthetic kitchen here in sunny Briiiighton where you must always lock your doors,” Judd deadpanned spruiking Mermade Hair.
Melbourne meet funny Judd.
