First trailer released for Netflix’s The Witcher starring Liam Hemsworth

The announcement shocked fans – now they’ve finally got their first official look as an Aussie actor takes on an iconic fantasy role.

Toss a coin to your new Witcher — Liam Hemsworth has officially stepped into Geralt of Rivia’s boots.

Netflix has dropped the first look at The Witcher Season 4, and the fantasy drama returns with eight brand-new episodes on October 30.

Henry Cavill carried the White Wolf through the first three seasons, but fans already knew change was coming. Back in October 2022, Cavill revealed on Instagram that he’d be hanging up his medallion and swords.

“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” Cavill wrote. “In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf.”

The teaser — which you can watch above — shows Hemsworth’s Geralt taking down a ghostly wraith, and the official logline teases big shifts ahead: “After the Continent-altering events of Season 3, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri find themselves separated by a raging war and countless enemies. As their paths diverge, and their goals sharpen, they stumble on unexpected allies eager to join their journeys. And if they can accept these found families, they just might have a chance at reuniting for good.”

Season 4 won’t be the end of the journey, but it will mark the beginning of the end. Netflix has already confirmed that The Witcher will wrap after Season 5, with the final two seasons shot back-to-back to cover the remaining novels: Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow and Lady of the Lake.

“This is the beginning of a two-season journey for our family to finally reunite and be together — hopefully forever,” said creator, showrunner and executive producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.

The Witcher Season 4 premieres October 30 on Netflix.
