The eldest child of tech billionaire Elon Musk has been granted a name and gender change, after telling a court she no longer wishes to be related to her famous father.
A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge approved the 18-year-old’s petition to make the change from Xavier Musk to Vivian Jenna Wilson.
The judge also asked for a new birth certificate to be issued by the state to reflect the changes, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that the teen had filed the name change, saying while she wants to be recognised as female, her name change wasn’t just about her transitioning.
She listed her reason for the name change as “gender identity and the fact that I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form”.
Vivian chose to remove Musk as her last name, opting for Wilson, which is her mother Justine’s maiden name, the New York Post reports.
Earlier this week, Ms Musk came out in support of her child, as she gave a rare insight into the “weird childhood” of her children with her ex-husband, saying she’s “very proud” of their 18-year-old coming out as trans.
"I had a weird childhood," my 18 year old said to me. "I can't believe I'm as normal-seeming as I am."

I said, "I'm very proud of you."
"I'm proud of myself!"
The 18-year-old is the eldest of five children from the Musk’s marriage between 2000 and 2008.
While Mr Musk has not yet commented, his ex-wife revealed in a tweet her response to the dramatic legal move.
“I had a weird childhood,” my 18 year old said to me. “I can’t believe I’m as normal-seeming as I am.”
‘I said, “I’m very proud of you.” “I’m proud of myself!”’
Musk and his daughter haven’t publicly been open before about their relationship or transition.
However, back in December 2020, Musk tweeted he supports the transgender community, but that “all these pronouns are an esthetic nightmare.”

Vivian has a twin brother, Griffin, and the last name Wilson comes from the maiden name of their mother, Canadian author Justine Wilson, who was married to Elon from 2000 to 2008.
The billionaire married actress Talulah Riley in 2010 and they divorced in 2012. The pair later remarried in 2013 and divorced in 2016.
Musk and Ms Wilson share custody of the five children. He also has two children with the singer Grimes, with whom he had a relationship from 2018 until recently.
Vivian’s hearing on the name change is set for Friday.
