The Brisbane Powerhouse, renowned for its contemporary arts and culture, has teamed up with Dendy Cinemas to unveil the city’s first permanent outdoor cinema.
This initiative, dubbed the Dendy Powerhouse Outdoor Cinema, promises to be a game-changer for Brisbane’s entertainment scene, just in time for the Australian summer.
Having firmly established their mark with traditional cinema outlets in Coorparoo and Portside Wharf, Dendy Cinemas have now set their sights on redefining cinematic experiences in Brisbane.
The cinema, which is set to open on November 10, boasts a colossal outdoor screen mounted on 40ft custom shipping containers, accompanied by wireless headphones offering premium sound.
Movie-goers can relax in plush outdoor lounge chairs and order their favourite drinks, snacks, or even Dendy’s signature choc tops via QR code.
CEO of Dendy Cinemas Sharon Strickland said the outdoor cinema idea marries Queensland’s renowned outdoor lifestyle with the allure of movies.
“We are delighted to be partnering with the Brisbane Powerhouse to deliver a stylish and sophisticated, all year round, outdoor cinema experience for the Brisbane community,” she said.
Nestled beside New Farm Park and the Brisbane River, the Dendy Powerhouse Outdoor Cinema plans to provide an immersive movie experience while making the most of the city’s stunning natural beauty.
“Dendy Powerhouse is an exciting cultural offering for Brisbane which takes advantage of the city’s beautiful weather and tropical gardens. This cinema under the stars is sure to attract residents and visitors wanting to try an outdoor movie experience,” Councillor Vicki Howard said.
CEO and Artistic Director of Brisbane Powerhouse, Kate Gould emphasised the importance of this venture in diversifying the artistic offerings at Brisbane Powerhouse.
“(It’s) a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to showcasing diverse art forms at Brisbane Powerhouse,” she said.
“This cinema will feature Dendy’s impressive film selection alongside our festival programming, offering audiences a range of films, from blockbusters to artistically diverse creations.”
The cinema’s debut on November 10 will showcase the highly-anticipated film, ‘The Marvels’. The inaugural showcase will also set the stage for a line-up of blockbuster including The Hunger Games: The Balled of Songbirds and Snakes and Dumb Money.
