Demi Moore has undergone a drastic transformation for her latest film.
The US actress, 61, shared several behind-the-scenes photos from her horror movie The Substance Thursday in honour of Halloween.
In one of the pictures, posted to Instagram, Moore’s face is covered in blood, to the point where even part of her shirt is stained.
In all of the photos, Moore has prosthetics on her face, head and body for her transformation into an elderly woman — saggy breasts and all.
“Been holding onto these gems from @trythesubstance and today feels like an appropriate day to share them,” she began her caption on Instagram.
“Happy Halloween from Elisabeth Sparkle,” Moore added, before announcing that the Coralie Fargeat-directed feature is now streaming on Mubi overseas. It is in cinemas in Australia.
Moore’s followers had big reactions to the startling photos of the actress.
“I wasn’t ready for slide two,” one fan wrote.
“Pretty iconic if you ask me,” another person said.
“That is haunting,” someone else commented.
Fans also praised Moore for her performance in the movie, which has put her in consideration in the Oscars race.
The Substance follows an award-winning actress (Moore) who loses her job as the host of a popular daytime aerobics workout TV show upon hitting 50. After she takes a black-market drug, she creates a younger, better version of herself (Margaret Qualley) — with dire consequences.
The film has elicited strong reactions from audiences. Many have walked out of showings and even got sick from the flick.
Critics also have strong opinions about the movie. The Post’s Johnny Oleksinski gave The Substance three and a half stars and called it “the craziest thing I’ve ever seen.”
“I enjoyed this ride of titillation, torment, insanity and exploitation to such a preposterous extent that I’ve considered signing up for online therapy to wrestle with it,” Oleksinski wrote in his review, comparing the film to a “hotter, younger offshoot” of 1992’s Death Becomes Her.
Moore has her first full-frontal nude scene in The Substance, which she described as “a very vulnerable experience.”
“Going into it, it was really spelled out — the level of vulnerability and rawness that was really required to tell the story,” she said at the Cannes Film Festival where the film had its world premiere in May.
“And it was a very vulnerable experience and just required a lot of sensitivity and a lot of conversation about what we were trying to accomplish,” the Ghost star added.
Moore also gave props to Qualley and called her 30-year-old co-star “a great partner who I felt very safe with.”
