Delta Goodrem releases first cover single ahead of tour

DELTA Goodrem, whose song for The Voice winner Anja Nissen was rejected, has chosen to release her first cover song as a single.

DELTA Goodrem is hoping chart lightning strikes twice for her new single Love ... Thy Will be Done, her first cover record.

Written by Prince, the Martika track was a massive No. 1 hit in Australian in 1991 and inescapable on the airwaves.

It is Goodrem’s first new radio track since last year’s Heart Hypnotic, which peaked at No. 7 in the charts.

The LA-based singer and songwriter told fans she recorded the Martika hit rather than any of her own compositions because “I’ve always loved this song”.

Goodrem has plenty of her own songs still waiting for release, including My Girls, the song she helped pen as the The Voice winner’s single but was rejected by Anja Nissen and her team at the last minute.

The 29-year-old pop star was keen to get some new music out ahead of her October concerts with Italian opera legend Andrea Bocelli, kicking off in Brisbane on Sunday.

She will perform the dramatic power ballad during her set at the Bocelli shows.

The Voice Kids star has been eager to get back on the performance stage after her completing her television duties.

Goodrem scored massive props recently when she dismissed a Marlon Wayan’s diss about her dancing at a Beyonce and Jay Z concert with a vine of the awkward Elaine dance from Seinfeld.

Love ... Thy Will Be Done will compete for airtime on pop radio stations with the risky Veronicas comeback single, the raw and emotional You Ruin Me, which was also sent to media today.
