A Queensland digital marketing tycoon who is looking for love after the breakdown of his high-profile marriage has been described by a friend as “genuine” as he joins the cast of the next season of Married at First Sight.
A former Hervey Bay marketing tycoon will join the cast of next season’s Married at First Sight two years after the breakdown of his high-profile marriage.
Daniel Hunjas, 42, now lives on the Gold Coast and has been spotted on the set of the high rating program, which is billed as a “social experiment”.
Mr Hunjas has worked in media organisations in the past and founded Edge Marketing in 2002. He is now described as “semi-retired”.
His mate Darren Bosley said Mr Hunjas was passionate about men’s mental health and had worked with him on forming Fraser Coast Mates after the loss of a mutual friend to suicide.
The organisation raises funds and offers support for men impacted by mental health struggles and depression.
He said Mr Hunjas was a friend, but he was also a fan of his as a businessman.
Mr Bosley had heard through another friend that Mr Hunjas was currently in the third week of filming and had already experienced one of the infamous MAFS dinner parties.
Mr Bosley said he had only found out this week Mr Hunjas would be part of the show.
“He kept it pretty quiet from everybody.”
Mr Hunjas had started his digital marketing business from scratch and worked his way to the top, Mr Bosley said.
His creative side had impressed Mr Bosley and he had enjoyed working alongside him.
Mr Hunjas had come up with the term Fraser Coast Mates and the logo, Mr Bosley said.
He had recently organised a corporate boxing event in support of men’s mental health.
Mr Hunjas had been married twice before and had taken the breakdown of each relationship hard, Mr Bosley said, adding that he was sure his friend would be on the show for genuine reasons.
After the breakdown of their 12 year marriage, Mr Hunjas’ former wife Teagan Peake posted on Facebook in February, 2020, saying that they had split in November the previous year.
She said the post came with a lot of love “but also sadness”.
The couple had been together for 12 years.
“We all partly live our lives in this digital world and we’ve chosen to write this post to celebrate and honour what has been a fun and loving journey together,” she wrote.
“Although our decision to separate comes with some sadness, our focus is on a very positive future and an overwhelming desire for our amazing friendship to continue to grow.
“Our success in business and our collective happiness has given us the strength to move forward on separate yet always connected paths.”
The Chronicle contacted Ms Peake to see if she would make any comment on her ex-husband’s MAFS experience.
She responded: “I won’t be involved in anything regarding Daniel, I’ve moved on from that chapter and would like to keep it that way”.
The new season of MAFS is set to return to Channel 9 in early 2023.
