Damian Hurley praises Warne ‘step-siblings’ amid family rift claims
Damian Hurley has addressed rumours he’s fallen out with his mother, Elizabeth, while paying tribute to Shane Warne’s children.
The son of British model Elizabeth Hurley has thanked his “modern family” including Shane Warne’s children in a heartfelt social media post quashing claims he and his mother have become “distant”.
Damian Hurley, 23, shared a lengthy story on Instagram on Thursday evening (Friday AEDT) praising the late cricketer’s children – Jackson, Brooke and Summer – who he described as his “step-siblings” for being there for him.
It comes after recent reports emerged that he and his mother had drifted apart since she revealed in April she had begun dating American singer Billy Ray Cyrus.
Hurley and the Achy Breaky Heart singer hard launched their relationship in April, cuddling in the countryside at Easter with Cyrus wearing green bunny ears and kissing Hurley on the cheek.
The model shared the post and wrote, “happy easter” with a love heart emoji.
On Thursday Damian hit back at recent reports in the British press claiming he and his mother, who are known to be extremely close, have drifted apart after she fell in love with Cyrus.
He wrote on Instagram: “I’ve been in the public eye since the day I was born and rarely comment on anything written about me or my family, but recent stories are so startlingly untrue that I want to offer a little clarity.
“For the record: I adore @billraycycrus and think he’s one of the sweetest men I’ve ever met.
“I love seeing my mum so happy.
“Billy’s kids are also adorable and everyone gets along beautifully, any claims to the contrary are yawn inducing and tediously untrue”.
Damian also said he had a “very modern family”, including “my cherished father Arun (Nayar), to my wonderful step siblings @brookewarne @summerwarne @jacksonwarne18.
“I feel blessed to be surrounded by so much love and support”.
Nayar is Hurley’s ex-husband but is not Damian’s biological father.
Hurley, 60, and Warne got engaged in 2011 but split two years later and Damian has remained close with the cricketing great’s children.
When the spin king died of a heart attack in 2022, Damian said Warne had been “a father figure for most of my formative years” and that “my heart is broken”.
Cyrus, 64, has six children, and was married to Australian singer Firerose (real name Johanna Rosie Hodges) for eight months before they filed for divorce in April last year.
Damian, who works as a model and film director, is known for taking revealing photos of his mother dressed in bikinis to help promote her swimwear business and in 2024 in a film titled ‘Strictly Confidential’ – written and directed by him – he cast his mother in a starring role.
Damian also hit out at the media in the Instagram post and said, “I’m grateful for the truth we live, despite the stories others try to write for us”.
His mother also shared the Instagram post while Cyrus did the same and wrote, “love you D Man” with a heart emoji.
