“It is a rock song that we wanted to bring into a commercial universe. We went for the jugular with it. It is really special because it has the energy of rock music, the swagger of hip hop but has the chorus of a pop song.”

The single also features a guest spot from Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker.

“We are like three tornadoes,” he said. “We are three people who grew up on that music, who are passionate about rock n roll music and we just wanted it to stop being so lost right now.

“We wanted to create an anthem with guitars and live drums. I was so excited to work with those artists. I love everything about it.”

Yungblud, 20, has been in Australia for the past few weeks playing a series of festival and sideshow gigs. He played Sydney’s Factory Theatre on Thursday night and will perform at Newcastle University on Friday night before heading to Perth.

With more than 320,000 Instagram followers and selling out shows across the globe, Yungblud is a name to watch.

Hit US television series 13 Reasons Why gave him an international career boost when his track Falling Skies was played on the show.

“It made me be taken a little bit more seriously because it was a show that talks about mental health which is such a massive topic,” he explained.

“There was controversy around the show because it was claimed it triggered anxiety but it didn’t glamorise it, it is making people aware who wouldn’t normally be aware of what some people suffer from mental health issues. And that is what art should do. Yeah it might be uncomfortable to watch but what is truly uncomfortable is someone not understanding when you are going through something.”

Looking ahead, boundary pushing Yungblud has big plans.

“I am only just getting started,” he said. “I want to connect with as many people as I can. It isn’t about numbers next to my name or how many records I’ve sold.

“All I care about is the people I walk out to when I am doing a show. I want to walk out to 10s of thousands of people when I play a show because we are there for a common reason. That is what I want it to be and I will work my hardest to get it towards.”
