HOLLYWOOD superstar Tom Hanks has touched down in Queensland ahead of filming the highly anticipated biopic about Elvis Presley.
The 63-year-old, who was recently emotional after accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes for his outstanding contribution to the entertainment world, was spotted touching down in the Gold Coast yesterday. The Academy Award winner will call the Glitter Strip home while filming the major biopic directed by legendary Australian filmmaker Baz Luhrmann at the Village Roadshow Studios.
Hanks, who is famous for his roles in Forrest Gump and Cast Away, will portray Presley’s manager Colonel Tom Parker in the biopic, which has a working title: “Kat King”.
The Courier-Mail understands the movie is scheduled to shoot for approximately 17 weeks from early February, hopefully giving Hanks a bit of time to relax on the Glitter Strip before work begins.
He will be starring alongside Austin Butler, who is playing Elvis Presley and young Australian actor Olivia DeJonge who will play Priscilla Presley.
The Warner Bros Pictures production is expected to inject $105 million into the Queensland economy and create 900 jobs.
