A tearful Triple M breakfast host Gus Worland told his listeners today he’s moving on after a decade in the shift.

Man Up: Gus Worland's mission to save Aussie men

Triple M breakfast host Gus Worland has announced his departure after a decade in the shift.

Worland shed a tear as he made the announcement live on air today, telling listeners: “It’s going to be bloody hard (to leave) because I love you guys and I love talking to Sydney. I never thought I’d get a gig on radio, let alone one for so long.”

Worland said he made the decision to move on to allow more time to focus on his men’s mental health initiative, Gotcha 4 Life, which he founded two years ago.

He will however continue to work with Triple M and is set to join Wendell Sailor and Jude Bolton on the Deadset Legends show Saturdays in 2020.

“Breakfast radio has played such a massive role in not only my life but also my family’s. I’ve met some lifelong friends and I wouldn’t change one thing,” he said.

“To wake up Sydney each morning, have a few laughs, and report the stories that matter, has been a true pleasure. I’m glad to be able to stay with the MMMs to talk about one of my lifelong passions, sport! And to do so with two sporting legends in Wendell and Jude.”

Worland was one of the founding members of the Triple M Grill Team alongside Stuart McGill and Mark Geyer in 2009.

He remained a constant as the line-up changed numerous times over the 10 years and this year has been an integral part of Triple Ms Moonman in the Morning show with Lawrence Mooney, Jess Eva and Chris Page.

“Gus Worland is a big, beautiful man that exudes a joy for life,” Mooney said of Worland. “It’s a great energy to be around and I’ve loved working with him.”

Mike Fitzpatrick, head of Triple M, added: “I’m hard pressed to find a more loveable and big-hearted man than Gus. He’s been a part of our Triple M family for over 10 years now, and that’s no small feat. His idea to re-create Deadset Legends on Saturday mornings is an opportunity we jumped at. Gus, Wendell and Bolts — three true legends to keep Sydney across all the sport they need to know about to start the weekend.”
