As more controversy looms for the late Michael Jackson, the pop superstar’s family say they are yet to decide how to mark his memory with the 10th anniversary of his death just a few months away.
Tito Jackson, 65, and the remaining Jacksons will perform alongside other Motown artists at the Domain in Sydney tomorrow. He said his younger brother is always a part of the group’s shows.
“Michael is a part of our whole being,” Tito told Confidential.
“It is hard to do a show without his memories. He is always a part of our spirit and our show.”
Tito, along with brothers Jermaine, Jackie and Marlon, will also play shows in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth as part of the Motown Party tour, alongside artists including Kool & the Gang, The Pointer Sisters, Village People and Sister Sledge.
Michael Jackson died of a heart attack and drug overdose on June 25, 2009, at the age of 50.
“We haven’t set any plans out there yet (for his anniversary) but I am pretty sure we will be doing something special, whether it is a show or just getting together in his memory, we will do something,” Tito Jackson said.
“He is greatly missed. With that in mind, we try to contribute as best we can to keep his spirit and his legacy flowing.”
After being together for five decades, Tito said a Jackson show was like a workout for him and his brothers when they perform classics, including ABC, Never Can Say Goodbye and I Want You Back.
“It is like going to the gym for us, we really enjoy it,” he said.
“The brothers are in shape. It is an excellent workout.”
Meanwhile, a documentary — Leaving Neverland — looking at sexual abuse allegations against Michael Jackson will have its world premiere at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival.
The movie details how the singer allegedly began relationships with two young boys and befriended their families when he was famous.
The men, now in their 30s, claim to have been sexually abused by the singer. The doco explores how they have dealt with it.
