BRISBANE The Bachelor runner-up Abbie Chatfield has labelled Dean Wells “a painful man” who is “trying to stay relevant” after the pair became locked in a social media feud about feminism.

Chatfield and the former Married At First Sight bad boy argued via Instagram messages last week after Wells commented on her post saying she had been brainwashed by Clementine Ford’s “toxic feminism”. Referring to feminist literature, Wells wrote “the klan (KKK) has written a lot of books too. A lot of crazy extremists write books”.

“There were just so many things wrong with that statement so we just had it out. Then his DMs became less logical,” Chatfield said. “Painful man.” Chatfield then received similar messages from Bachelor alumni Bill Goldsmith and Jamie Doran and MAFS groom Telv Williams.

They are some of the 100 direct messages Chatfield receives daily, many of which insult her body.

“I couldn’t stop laughing at this yesterday. They sent me a message saying ‘your body looks like Aeroplane Jelly’,” she said. But Chatfield, who will appear on Bachelor in Paradise later this year, is unconcerned about the negative comments, having cultivated a supportive following that “consists of a lot of smart women”.

She shares advice on podcast It’s A Lot and on Wednesday she will host a virtual games night as part of ShopBack’s week-long virtual birthday celebrations through which fans can win generous vouchers.

She will paint images and fans can guess what they are to win.
