BYRON BAY-bound tennis legend Pat Rafter and wife Lara are hoping to smash records on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast with the couple listing their beachfront stunner with ambitious $18 million plus expectations.

They paid $9.5 million in 2006 and then commissioned the all white, Mediterranean minimalist home as they relocated from their contemporary Hopetoun Avenue, Balmoral Slopes house in Sydney.

They moved into the dress circle John Burgess-designed Sunshine Coast property in early 2010.

Set on a 1,286 sqm block among the sand dunes overlooking the beach, the luxury home comes with a landscaped path to the sand and the surf, ideal for the surf fantatic Rafter.

Complete with a central infinity edge pool and spa, the seven bedroom, five bathroom home also features a home theatre, study, media room and wine cellar.

But no tennis court.

The official Sunshine Coast residential record has stood since 2009 when $8 million plus was paid for a four bedroom, three bathroom Noosa Heads waterfront.

The Rafters are off to Byron Bay having paid $1.35 million for a 28 hectare parcel on the Byron outskirts on which they are building their next home.

Since retiring, Rafter went on to become an underwear model for Bonds, a brand ambassador for the Mantra Group of hotels and a successful businessman.

In 2010 he was announced as Australia’s Davis Cup captain and held the post until stepping down last year.

His greatest accomplishments came at the US Open, where he won back to back titles in 1997 and 1998, propelling him to world no. 1 status in 1999.
