It’s comforting to know even the A-list sometimes have a dust-up. From Taylor Swift taking on Kanye West and Scooter Braun to Kim Cattrall letting fly to Sarah Jessica Parker and even Kochie getting into a biff with Martha Kalifatidis, here are some of our favourite celebrity feuds …
NICKI MINAJ AND CARDI B
The two rap queens have been vying for the throne for years — beginning with social media skirmishes and progressing to a physical fight at New York Fashion Week last year. Fans have formed opposing camps and fuelled the fight by setting up fake accounts. Disgruntled French concert-goers even chanted “Cardi B” when Nicki Minaj cancelled her show last minute in March.
GWYNETH PALTROW AND MARTHA STEWART
Gwyneth Paltrow may be the holistic Martha Stewart, but the original lifestyle guru was not happy about the actor moving in on her territory. Martha told Porter magazine in 2014 that if Gwyneth “were confident in her acting, she wouldn’t be trying to be Martha Stewart.” It developed into a literal bunfight when Martha ran a recipe for a “conscious coupling pie” in her magazine and Gwyneth hit back with a “jailbird cake”. Delicious.
EWAN MCGREGOR AND DANNY BOYLE
Having shot to fame in three Danny Boyle movies, Shallow Grave, Trainspotting and A Life Less Ordinary, Ewan McGregor was devastated when the director bluntly told him he wasn’t cast in The Beach. The pair didn’t talk for a decade and only reunited for 2017’s T2 Trainspotting. “I felt a great shame about it, I was not proud of the way I handled it,” Danny said. “I just regret all the films that we didn’t make together,” Ewan said.
PARIS HILTON AND LINDSAY LOHAN
They were the early adopters of online abuse — of each other. The reality stars’ friendship turned sour in public, with Lindsay Lohan calling Paris Hilton a c … in 2006. Paris reignited the feud in May by calling Lindsay “beyond” and “lame and embarrassing,” on TV. In response, Lindsay posted a photo of the former friends with the caption “#beyond friends are true.” She told Kyle and Jackie O she was praying for Paris.
LIAM AND NOEL GALLAGHER
The Gallagher brothers have been having punch-ups since their Oasis days — Noel once attacked Liam with a baseball bat when he turned up drunk to a recording session. In April Noel said Liam was “rude, arrogant, intimidating and lazy. He’s like a man with a fork in a world of soup.” And this year Noel’s wife Sara described Liam on Instagram as the “fat t … doing his tribute act.” Liam hit back last week by messaging his niece Anais to tell her “step mam to be very careful,” after which he tweeted, “Since when has telling somebody to be careful worse than wishing some1 drop dead or hoping someone dies of AIDS.”
KANYE WEST AND TAYLOR SWIFT AND EVERYONE
Kanye West limbered up with an on-stage insult to Taylor Swift in 2009 when he interrupted her VMA acceptance speech for Best Video, declaring it should have gone to Beyonce. But he was only just beginning — he’s had spats with everyone from Jimmy Kimmel to Wiz Khalifa, Bruno Mars, Beck and Justin Timberlake.
TAYLOR SWIFT AND KANYE WEST AND EVERYONE
Taylor Swift, meanwhile, was also only just getting started. After Kanye West humiliated her onstage, she hit back with her song Innocent, Kanye un-apologised and the fight continued via the duo’s hit songs. Taylor is now in a kind of Celebrity Survivor scenario, after attacking record label owner Scott Borchetta online for selling her music rights to entertainment entrepreneur Scooter Braun. Team Taylor includes Cara Delevingne, Brendon Urie, Iggy Azalea and former foe Katy Perry, while Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato and Sia have taken Scooter’s side.
THE ROCK AND VIN DIESEL
He had some Rock-sized beef with co-star Vin Diesel in Fast & Furious 8, accusing him and other actors of being “candy asses” and saying his “blood is legit boiling” on-screen. Tyrese Gibson defended co-star Vin on Instagram, saying, “If no one else will jump out there and stand up I will.” Vin, meanwhile, hit back on social media by revealing the next instalment has a new co-star sent to him from heaven by Paul Walker in the form of Rock rival John Cena. It rumbles on.
KIM CATTRALL AND SARAH JESSICA PARKER
They played best friends on screen, but Kim Cattrall imploded that notion online last year. Sarah Jessica Parker has constantly maintained there is no feud but following the death of Kim’s brother Chris, she called SJP a hypocrite on Instagram, writing, “Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now. Let me make this very clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.” Sex and the City 3 seems unlikely, then.
BETTE MIDLER AND KIM KARDASHIAN
The outspoken star has been having sprays for years, including against Melania Trump, Caitlyn Jenner and Ariana Grande. She also went for Kim Kardashian, tweeting, “Kim Kardashian tweeted a nude selfie today. If Kim wants us to see a part of her we’ve never seen, she’s gonna have to swallow the camera.” Kim fired back, “I really didn’t want to bring up how you sent me a gift awhile back trying to be a fake friend then come at me.” Aged 73, Bette is still fighting her keyboard war.
MARIAH CAREY AND MADONNA
n the mid 1990s, the two divas were making headlines with their public spat. Madonna accused Mariah Carey of not being very bright and said she would “rather kill herself than be Mariah Carey” to which Mariah replied, “I really haven’t paid attention to Madonna since like the 7th or 8th grade when she used to be popular.” Madonna and Mariah have never made up, but aged 60 and 49 respectively, both are still performing.
KOCHIE AND MARTHA KALIFATIDIS
Last but not least comes the unlikely spat between Sunrise’s David Koch and Married At First Sight’s Martha Kalifatidis, after the TV presenter accused the reality star of elbowing him in the ribs to get to the cameras at the Logies. Martha hit back on YouTube, saying, “I just thought, like, dude, you’re, like, my dad’s age,” and branded the Sunrise team bullies.
