A public family outing yesterday after their shock marriage split had some speculating reconciliation was on the cards for Rabbitohs star Sam Burgess and his estranged wife Phoebe. However insiders say their united front is for a different reason.

A family outing in Sydney had some speculating reconciliation was on the cards for Rabbitohs star Sam Burgess and his ex-wife Phoebe, however those close to the pair say their united front is for the children.

The celebrity couple were sighted walking around Centennial Park on Saturday morning, with Sam seen cuddling his two-year-old daughter Poppy, while Phoebe pushed the couple’s nine-week-old son William in the pram.

Phoebe was impeccably dressed, sporting a Lucy Folk twin-set and coveted white Celine cat-eye sunglasses as the pair made their way around the historic precinct.

While the pair are clearly on talking terms and seemed relaxed in each other’s company, there still remains a massive freeze between the two families, with irreparable damage having been done when Sam moved out of his marital home less than a month after William’s birth.

According to insiders, despite their messy and public marriage breakdown, Phoebe has spent the past few weeks trying to salvage her three year marriage.

And it looked to be working with Sam, who has been living on his own in a nearby property, spending an increasing amount of time at his family home in recent days.

The 30-year-old footy player was this week sighted grabbing food and nappies for his ex-wife, and his Range Rover has been parked outside the couple’s Coogee home more than usual.

Yesterday’s excursion comes as Phoebe is also once again wearing both her engagement and wedding rings.

This was first noted on Tuesday when Phoebe was spotted walking through Double Bay alongside Karl Stefanovic’s wife Jasmine Yarbrough.

Making somewhat of a statement, the mother of two flashed her engagement ring which had been noticeably absent since reports surfaced of a split between the journalist and her NRL star husband.

And one week ago, Phoebe, 29 posted a picture of herself cradling a newborn at a cafe, which was met with words of encouragement and support from high profile followers including former Harper’s Bazaar editor Kellie Hush and designers Alex Perry, Camilla Freeman Topper.

In the wake of the couple’s marriage breakdown, those close to the pair told The Sunday Telegraph that, “things had been bad for a while.”

Sam and Phoebe tied the knot in a star-studded affair in December 2015 at Phoebe’s parents home in the Southern Highlands.
