“Redfoo knew Some Blonde because she did a remix for him, so he put us in touch,” Derry explained.
“I feel like I have been so lucky the whole way. Every couple of months something happens to me and I feel lucky. It feels like a fluke, not in an impostor syndrome way but just that it is crazy that things keep working out for me.
“This music is very pop ... there’s a really high note in the song that took me so many takes to get.
“It is a fun song about meeting a guy and asking if you are the one for him.”
Splitting her time between the Gold Coast and Sydney, Derry was previously part of a duet, Scarlet Belle, with Kyle Sandilands’ ex-wife Tamara Jaber.
Since The X Factor Derry has been gigging around the country and is currently providing the live music backing on Dancing With The Stars.
Looking back at her time on both reality singing shows, she said: “Everything happens for a reason. “I am glad I did it and it opened a lot of doors for me.”
Some Blonde, with Derry, will play Sydney’s Ministry of Sound on April 20 with shows also booked for Newcastle, Singleton, Casino and Nowra.
