‘Pain, grief, despair’: Influencer’s heartbreaking baby news

High-profile Gold Coast fitness influencer Sophie Guidolin has revealed the tragic death of her baby girl, saying she “cannot begin to articulate my pain and grief”.

Understanding stillbirth

A Queensland fitness influencer and mother has shared tragic news of her unborn baby’s death after struggling through her latest pregnancy with a debilitating illness.

Sophie Guidolin, 33, shared to her 594,000 Instagram followers that on Wednesday she gave birth to her daughter, Pixie, stillborn.

“I cannot begin to articulate my pain, grief and despair through my entire soul,” the Gold Coast-based influencer wrote in a post.

“On Wednesday, Jan 25th, a day I will never forget, my life was changed forever. I gave birth to a beautiful little girl, Pixie via C-section, stillborn.

“I am trying to trust in gods (sic) timing and I have always believed that the universe has my back and no matter how confusing this all feels, I am trying to make sense of this grief with my faith.”

Ms Guidolin, a mother-of-four, struggled with hyperemesis gravidarum through her latest pregnancy.

The debilitating illness causes severe and persistent vomiting and nausea throughout pregnancy, which can lead to hospitalisation.

Ms Guidolin was very public about her struggles with the disorder, which impacts about 1 in 100 pregnant women.

She regularly shared Instagram Stories of herself on a drip in hospital, with a blood nose, or with a sick bag in hand, all severe symptoms of the illness.

“I feel so guilty for my thoughts prior and I would do anything to have that pain, over this harrowing experience.”

Ms Guidolin recently married her Gold Coast doctor husband, Andrew Firgaira on November 11 after getting engaged in Santorini, Greece in June.

She is a nutritionist, personal trainer and an author. She has written nine books, has her own podcast called Flourish and Fulfilled and created The Bod, her online health and fitness program with focuses on macro-led nutrition and includes workouts and tips.

Guidolin shares four children — Kai, Ryder and twin girls Aria and Evie — with her former husband, bodybuilder Nathan Wallace.

Firgaira, a high-profile dentist, also has two daughters.
